It starts out with how to install and use Visual Studio and then jumps into using tools to quickly throw together graphical interfaces. That lets new programmers have something they made written and working quickly which should encourage them to continue. In the end, there is only one short chapter (22 pages) in the book that covers the Visual Basic language at all and it only covers the bare minimum needed to get someone started. However, the author goes on to show several examples of more complex, real-world problems that can be solved with Visual Basic.
