son loves the game, but i am not impressed
the game itself is fine, provides hours of fun to the kids, and is a central magnet to all the boys that come to our house for playdates.the turning on the game is a pain, pausing and going back and stuff is just not graceful. whoever wrote the software needs some good spanking. my husband is a software architect and i was a software engineer. it's a pain to get it to run right and it has too many annoying bugs. when the game is paused too long, it messes up the screen display which has to be shutdown and restarted to have the right display. maybe it has something to do with using this on a mac instead of pc, but it claims to be a mac version.

"Daddy, play with me!"
We don't own a gaming console; we play games on our Macs. My 4-year-old son loves Lego and Star Wars, so I bought this game for him. (OK, and for me, too.) I wanted it to be easier for him to play, so I read gamepad reviews on Amazon and decided on theย Logitech Dual Action Game Pad USB . It works great for dual play: Turns out my son prefers to use the keyboard, so I use the gamepad. The buttons are fully (and easily) assignable within the game so I can set it up any way I like, and the cable is nice and long so I can sit next to him or stand behind him as I choose. He loves to play the game and has it mostly figured out--even navigating the menus to return to Dexter's Diner and/or quit the game--despite not being able to read yet. Right now he just powers through each level/episode without trying to accumulate studs or collect minikit pieces; later on I'm sure he'll slow down and thoroughly explore each level, so the game's replayability will remain high.We are running the game on a 2006 iMac and I have no complaints about the performance. The only problem is the permissions issue described by another reviewer: We can't run the game from my son's parentally-controlled account using Simple Finder, so we run it from Mom's account. It's not worth working around.

Fun to play, but has some technical/support issues
My 5-1/2 year old can't get enough of this game! I have to ration his playing time. Game play gets 5 stars.Technical/support issues:1) If you install under "Dad's Account" on your Mac, the game may fail to launch when your Mac is switched into "Junior's Account" because you probably (wisely) made Junior's account a non-admin account, so his account can't write to the application folder. Fix this by logging back into Dad's account, clicking on the outermost application folder (e.g. Applications\Lego Star Wars), pressing cmd-I, and changing the permissions to "everyone: read and write." Aspyr doesn't say anything about this; I had to google to find it.2) Aspyr and Apple's website don't clearly state the system requirements. It _does_ run on an Intel Mac (we're running it on a 2 GHz Intel iMac) with the available patch.3) The default keyboard layout for the controls is backwards. Player 2's controls are on the left of the keyboard, even though the player's score and icon are on the right.4) The default keyboard layout puts the two players' control keys right next to each other, so the players are constantly bumping hands. Makes for some great RSI after a few minutes of playing.5) It takes about 10 steps to exit the game properly when it's time to quit. Each player has to leave the game, then you have to exit to Dexter's Diner, then you have to exit, then exit again. Each time there are "are you sure?" prompts. It's as bad as trying to leave Ikea!6) Game saving and level selection are non-intuitive. You have to actually RTFM to figure it out :)7) It's possible for a kid to get "stuck" in the "Control Options" screen, where you have to hit fn-F1 to restore the default keys and _then_ press Esc to return to the game. Very non-intuitive.8) As a corollary to #7, Macs default to requiring the "fn" modifier key in order to use the F1 and F2 keys necessary to join the game. Non-intuitive for kids. Aspyr should have chosen different keys.9) The Display Options screen doesn't display widescreen options. You have to launch the application with the Shift key held down to select widescreen resolution and fullscreen options. These annoyances almost drag it down to an overall 3-star rating, but the game play really is very good, and keeps it at 4 stars.

Too loud, too violent
This game, which comes with warnings that it may cause seizures, is too loud, with bright flashing lights. My son tried it out once, and his sisters immediately started complaining that it was loud and violent, a definite waste of time. I found it did not work so well on our MAC - though it said to click on the exit button to end a game, there was no exit button. We returned this game and bought the backyard baseball game for MACS, a game with more educational value and no loud, flashing lights. My son let me return the Star Wars game with no resistance.
