## Description

Resident Evil: Code Veronica X comes with a bonus playable demo of Devil May Cry . Resident Evil: Code Veronica X begins as Claire Redfield leaves Raccoon City for the European headquarters of the Umbrella Corporation to search for her brother Chris and solve the mystery surrounding Umbrella Corporation's dreaded biotoxins. She is captured during her investigation and sent to a prison on a desolate island. In Resident Evil: Code Veronica X , players control Claire at the beginning of the game, and later assume the role of Chris Redfield in their efforts to halt Umbrella's devious plans. One of the many features that make Code Veronica X different from previous Resident Evil games is the Real World System (RWS). Now when Claire affects changes to her environment (opening doors, solving puzzles, storing items), those changes remain while you play the second half of the game as Chris. Resident Evil: Code Veronica X contains never-before-seen footage that focuses on battles between Chris and the enigmatic Wesker, and sheds new insight into the ominous Resident Evil story line. To her horror, Claire discovers Umbrella Corporation's insidious activities are not isolated to the remote Midwestern city. Flesh-eating zombies, horrific beasts, and even stranger mutations have spread on a global scale. Just how far does this twisted conspiracy extend? Nope. Everything you Feared! Includes New footage - Never before seen cut scenes. Playstation 2.

Review: Another excellent Resident Evil game which stands the test of time - I barely played any video games last decade but since 2010 I've been catching up on all of the best video games I missed out on. For this series, I started with Resident Evil 4 on Gamecube, which I loved before deciding to go back and play through the entire series. I then played the Gamecube remake of the first Resident Evil (this is my favorite of the series so far), followed by Resident Evil 0 for Gamecube, the PS1 version of Resident Evil 2 which I bought on PSN and played on my PS3, and then this. I have loved every Resident Evil that I've played so far and I rate them all 9/10. For fans of the series who have played the other old Resident Evil games and are wondering whether or not they should try this one out, I highly recommend it. It is my least favorite of the RE games I've played, but it was still excellent and it follows the basic RE formula. And now I'll try to give some advice for people that haven't tried one of the old Resident Evil games. All of the REs before RE 4 had a certain style to them. They were true survival-horror games and they dominated this genre (modern Resident Evils are more like action games and now the Dead Space series is the quintessential series for survival horror). You had to conserve your ammo and solve a lot of interesting puzzles which consist of putting items in different locations and combining items. The graphics are pre-rendered so they have more detail than other games of their time, but you can't look all around you. You see one camera angle at a time, and then right when you move to the edge of that, it shows you another camera angle. It doesn't scroll. Sometimes this can be frustrating because you can't see an enemy that's 5 feet in front of your character. But you can just back up a bit to solve this problem. And pressing R1 makes you aim at the nearest enemy so you don't always have to see them to kill them. This game in particular is sometimes so dark that it's difficult to see around you, so I don't recommend playing it when there is a glare on your TV screen. The game is very dark and somber in mood. The voice acting is weak. The sound is absolutely amazing and holds up to the best of today's games. You hear doors creak, footsteps, zombies growling, and beautiful piano and orchestral sounding music to set the tone. Some people don't like the controls. Pressing right on the d-pad makes you rotate right from the point of view of your character. It doesn't make you move to the right. I didn't have a problem getting used to this quickly when I started playing the old REs. You can't reload your weapon unless your clip runs out of ammo or you go into the menu screen, which is mildly annoying. But most importantly, the most enjoyable thing about the series is simply exploring the world and seeing where the story takes you. I disagree with the "most helpful critical review" when he says to get this if you haven't played the series. Well, if the PS2 is your only console, then you can take that advice. But the story of this follows from Resident Evil 2. And while you can understand what's happening without playing the earlier games, I recommend playing through the earlier games first. If you have a Gamecube or Wii, start with the remake of the first Resident Evil. Or if you just have a PS1 or PS3 (which is backwards compatible with PS1 games), you can play the original Resident Evil. If you're more interested in action, you can just skip to Resident Evil 4 which had amazing reviews. And finally, if you do decide to play this game, I'll leave you with a basic tip: don't waste ammo! Use your knife when you can. If you accidently miss a bunch of shots with a powerful weapon, you might want to go back to your last save and do it over. You'll need good weapons for the end of the game. Graphics: 8.5/10 for its time (would be higher if it didn't get so dark at times, cutscene graphics are 10/10 for its time) Sound: 10/10 for any time. Controls: 6/10 but good enough for what you are expected to do. The game doesn't require you to do any kind of platforming or complex fighting moves. Voice acting: 6/10. One bad guy sounded absolutely ridiculous at times but the rest of the cast was fine. Story: 9/10. Interesting twists. Playtime: 15-20 hours. It took me a little less than 20 hours to beat it. Gameplay/overall score: 9/10. (so 10/10 for its time!)
Review: Cheesy...But Fun - I have to start off by saying that this is a fun and cool entry in the resident evil series...My only issues are how rushed and ridiculous certain aspects of the game are. Ive always loved the RE story line and I think this installment kind of suffers from some afterburn of survivor (which is fun to play but is just awful...). The story line to this is just lacking....like they decided to match the story line with the cheesyness of the originals voice acting. Cheesy voice acting aside RE 1 had a great story line and plot. But off that one of my biggest issues with this game without giving too much away is the dragan ball-z-esque fight sequences....if you want a glimpse of what I'm talking about take a peek at the back cover. But thats about all I'll say on that. Either way this game delivers in action and zombie infested madness so it is worth it. It also has the fact it isnt Survivor going for it as well.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Honest to goodness real survival horror
*by D***K on March 7, 2015*

Before RE 3 turned into more of a survival shooter, Resident Evil was all about sneaking around and avoiding fights because you'll never have enough ammo to shoot your way out. Out of the early ones, this is probably my favorite, jam packed with monsters and psychotic sick ****s all begging for an exploding arrow to the face or Colombian neckties. That last bit really stands out. Every game with any shooting elements always provides a basic bottom of the barrel weapon to start with, usually a melee weapon or weak handgun with unlimited ammo. These usually also are about the most useless thing in the game and more likely to get a player who tries to use it killed rather than his/her target. This game is one of the exceptions. While not exactly a weapon you want to use all game, the combat knife (once you get how to work it,) is sometimes a better option for clearing a room with only one or two (or three) zombies. The only aggravating downsides are the infamous RE camera angles and fetch quest puzzles. It's always been a cheap and annoying game gimmick to make games harder by not being what's going on around your character (even with things that should be in his/her direct line of site.) Sure, we hear (or heard back in those days,) how fixing a camera on an unusual angle let the designers come up with more stylized or artistic backgrounds. Yeah, that's nice and all, but nobody played PS2 games for pretty graphics. Back in the PS2 days, oh yeah those graphics were great but nobody was gonna mistake a polygon pixelated face for something realistic. Maybe it's just a personal opinion, but putting graphics over gameplay is never the right answer. An even bigger cop-out is using fetch quests to make a game longer. Nobody likes fighting and dodging through a half-dozen rooms just to find out they have to fight their way back through those rooms (usually with respawned enemies,) to go pick up a stupid little trinket and then fighting through those rooms AGAIN just to move on. At best, players will advance to find an item to take back those half-dozen rooms to open a different path, doubling the effort going from here to there to back again. At worst, games can have players backtrack, take a new path for another fetch item, backtrack from there and go another new path. That's increasing the effort five times. All that done because the game designer wanted the game to be longer but instead of adding more rooms, they decided to take the cheap path of making players do the same thing a bunch of extra times. The Resident Evil franchise has been rather notorious for both. In fact, early RE games are usually the given example of those two practices. Yet, the game is still worth four and a half out of five stars. The rest of the game (like the rest of early RE games,) made up for those types of headaches. Resident Evil practicality invented the survival horror genre and when a survival horror game is released by game designers that know how to do it right, those games can easily claim one of the best of the year/half decade/decade/all-time honors...and not by the 'professional' reviewers that get bribed to rate everything 5 stars, I'm talking about actual gamers.
