Finally a natural, unscented dishwasher detergent that works, use 1/2 tablet
I had been searching for a product that works after the required reformulation of dishwasher detergents a few years ago. I found that Cascade Platinum worked great but was extremely fragranced, to the point that the storage cupboard smelled, even with the package sealed shut. When using the Cascade, the dishwasher and dishes themselves also smelled and you could taste the detergent when drinking from glasses. I could not stand having the Cascade in the house. It can be hit or miss when it comes to some of the natural detergents/cleaners. I was very happy to find that this Ecover Zero works great! I use 1/2 of a tablet and dishes, including glasses, get very clean with no food residue and no detergent residue/smell. I unwrap the tablets (kind of a pain and not environmentally friendly that they are individually plastic wrapped), cut in half (score both sides with a table knife and then press down) and store the 1/2s in a glass jelly jar so they are ready to use. I have stopped rinsing dishes before loading and I rarely have any dishes or silverware to rewash due to food residue. I really like that this product is unscented and leaves no smell on dishes. It is also biodegradable / eco-friendly. I would recommend trying this product with 1/2 tablet for no detergent residue on dishes, but I'm sure performance varies depending on brand and age of dishwashers. Updated 12/31/15 to add method for cutting in half that I posted to another review comments. Also adding that I still love this product and am reordering. To cut tablets in half... I do this on the floor since it does take some pressure to press down on the tablet. Note: this method works for me - use your own judgement and do at your own risk when cutting your own Ecover tablets. Remove tablet from plastic wrapping and put onto a flat metal plate/tray or other firm surface (that you do not care about possibly damaging in the process) to contain dust. Score the tablet by sawing a line with a table knife (or sharper knife if your table knife is very dull) on one large flat side of the tablet (saw back and forth over the line until it is maybe 1/16 or 1/8" deep) then flip over and score a line on the opposite side. Then press straight down onto the line with the table knife or use the end of the tines of a fork and the tablet should break in half (this may take a fair amount of pressure, depending on the depth of the line. If too difficult, continue sawing the line deeper first). Alternately, you could also continue sawing the line on the second side until the tablet breaks in half. There will likely be a small amount of powder generated from the sawing process but just add it into the dishwasher detergent compartment to use it up. This method works to cut tablets fairly nicely in half. If you do not care so much about having more equal halves, just pressing down onto the tablet with high force should work, eg using a metal putty knife and a hammer. I cut a bunch of tablets in half at once and store in a repurposed Bonne Maman jelly jar.

The Best Deal for Fragrance-Free Dishwashing – Great for Sensitive Households!
I’ve been using Ecover Zero Dishwasher Soap Powder for a while now, and it’s perfect for my needs. If you wash a lot of dishes like I do and can’t handle scented products, this is the best deal out there. The 48-ounce size in a pack of 8 lasts a long time, which makes it super cost-effective. What I really love about this product is how safe and gentle it is. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) gives it a solid ‘B’ rating, which means it’s made with safer ingredients compared to other dishwashing detergents. It’s fragrance-free, dye-free, and chlorine-free, so I don’t have to worry about any harsh chemicals or overwhelming scents. Despite being gentle, it cleans incredibly well. Even stuck-on food and greasy pans come out spotless, and there’s no residue left behind. It’s also great knowing it’s eco-friendly, with biodegradable and phosphate-free ingredients that are better for the environment. If you’re sensitive to scents or just looking for an affordable, effective, and safe dishwasher detergent, I can’t recommend Ecover Zero enough. This bulk pack is a fantastic value, and I’ll definitely keep buying it!

Good non-toxic option
PROS: it doesn't leave a residue on the glass items. It is less toxic than the other regular brands people mostly use. It doesn't leave strong smell on the items. CONS: It is not as aggressive as other tablets, so it works best if you sort of wash off the food from plates before placing them inside the dish washer.

Solid buy, solid performance!
I'm always on the look out for less toxic detergents and this not only fit the bill, but delivers in a big way. There's no film, no chemical smell on dishes, everything sparkling and squeaky clean, including the dishwasher itself. Before when I used popular dishwashing soaps, I had to run from time to time circle with special tablet that cleaned the dishwasher and got rid of smell, so appliance can perform better; not need for additional maintenance with this product. No smell, no residue, just clean, safe dishes and machine. As you can see, my flatware is gold plated. I have it since 5 years; I run dishwasher daily and using this product through years was gentle enough to clean but not strip coating from it, I think it does speak for itself. I started my journey with the Ecover dishwasher tablets but one day they got out of stock so I ordered the powder. Both deliver same, amazing results, so I buy whichever is on sale; really can't imagine anyone to be disappointed by this product.

Best eco friendly product we have found so far
Hey everyone, I recently tried the Ecover Natural Dishwasher Detergent and wanted to share my thoughts on it. Overall, I was really impressed with its performance and eco-friendliness. One of the things that stood out to me about this detergent is that it's plant-based, which means it's better for the environment than other detergents that use harsh chemicals. It's also free from artificial fragrances and dyes, which makes it safe for people with sensitive skin. In terms of cleaning power, I found that the Ecover Natural Dishwasher Detergent worked really well. It was able to clean a variety of dishes, including greasy pans and stained cups, leaving them spotless and shiny. I also appreciated that it didn't leave any residue or film on the dishes, which can be a problem with some detergents. The detergent comes in a compact package that's easy to store and handle. It's designed to work in all types of dishwashers, which is great because I know some detergents can be picky about what machines they work with. One thing to keep in mind is that the Ecover Natural Dishwasher Detergent is a bit more expensive than some of the other detergents on the market. However, I think it's worth the investment for the peace of mind and excellent results it provides. Overall, I would definitely recommend giving the Ecover Natural Dishwasher Detergent a try if you're looking for an eco-friendly and effective way to clean your dishes.

Reduce your footprint - use Enviro-friendly detergents!!
Let me start with a little controversy. I have no idea what the critics were smoking up while giving this product 2 stars or 1 star. This dishwasher detergent is E-PIC (saw what I did there? :-D ) It is not rocket science to figure out that you need to remove the plastic wrap on each one of the tablets. I read reviews (more like complaints) about how it wasn't apparent that the plastic wrap had to be taken off before using the detergent tablet. I figured that the tablets were tightly wrapped in a thin film of plastic. But when I opened the box, it was PRETTY apparent that the plastic cover on the tablets had to be taken off. Elementary, my dear Watson. Now to the detergent quality itself. Well, there's different ways of looking at it. You can't put dirty dishes with food stuck on it from last night's dinner and expect the detergent to do wonders. No detergent is going to stand that test. I lightly hand-wash (with a ScotchBrite wand) my dishes to remove solid food particles sticking to the dishes, cutlery etc. Then place them into the dish washer. NOTE: A few ladies had some excellent ideas that I read in the reviews. Cut the tablet into two parts - 1/3rd and 2/3rds (my improvisation) rather than two halves. Put the smaller one in Pre-wash and the bigger one in main-wash slot of the dish washer. The dishes come out squeaky clean. No white residue. Don't expect it to shine your silverware - this is a dish washing detergent. Get real, please :-) It does get rid of grease pretty well. I use it for stainless steel, ceramic, plastic dishes and it does a good job with all of them. If you're expecting the detergent to do all the work and you just want to put the dishes right into the dish washer with food stuck on it, you're better off with those harsh chemicals that do a wonderful job for all the lazy folks. Oh and thanks for ruining the Earth for all of us and our future generation. Have a good day!

eco friendly- but bad for dish washer
I have been using for about a year now. Dishes get clean and detergent seemingly works. However over long term use in dishwasher it will create a pasty, greasy or waxy film all over your dish washer and reak havic on it. Extra work- to monitor and clean all of your dish washer very often. I am convinced this was why my old dishwasher finally gave up- build up on heating element, made it go kaputt. Brand new dishwasher is now having issues due to build up on seals making it leak, constant cleaning needed. Assuming whatever the binding agent is in these eco friendly detergent tabs for the grease are making it stick to the dishwasher itself and not easily emptying. Product good for dishes, but not dishwasher. If you chose to use, the trade off is continued maintenance on your appliance. Wish I had taken picture before cleaning again.

LOVE this product!
Alright I understand while being an eco-friendly product it still has its faults, most specifically the fact that they are individually wrapped. But I think people need to understand these are natural & when these pods get tossed around in warehouse + transit they can lose their shape & powder chips off. I think if they weren’t wrapped we’d be seeing a lot more complaints about when they arrived they were essentially powder in a box which defeats the use of a tablet in the first place. So to me the eco pros outweigh the cons.. the wrappers are still recyclable! Plus the ingredients are biodegradable, natural AND water/fish safe which is huge for me as a diver. What other detergent brand have you ever seen that’s actually fish friendly???! For my specific situation I have a countertop dishwasher as my small kitchen has zero room for a normal one but dishes are my least favorite (essentially intolerable gross chore—wet food just freaks me out tbh). With that said, I’m especially conscious about the detergent I’m using as it drains right into my sink & I need everything to dissolve appropriately. You’re not supposed to half tablets (although I’m sure I could) these are AMAZING!! They could easily clean a normal sized washer worth of dishes. Everything comes out clean & spotless!! I’ve put my small glass Pyrex in here, SPOTLESS! I put a 2.5qt crock dish with impossibly caked on brown rice residue that I tried & failed to hand scrub many times before… also came out perfectly clean & gleaming! I could not recommend this dishwasher detergent more! Even in my small machine the tablet is dissolved & it doesn’t leave residue.. not to say these tablets aren’t powerful, obviously! My machine has a window so I can see how much soap/foam is inside & it’s a big amount which makes me fully confident in saying it’d also do work in a full size machine. As for the scent, I don’t really smell it but I don’t need my dishes to smell good unless I’m smelling the food I put in them so that’s no issue for me. The lemon ones just happened to be cheaper at my time of purchase otherwise I would’ve gone with fragrance free anyways.
