Great Pants
Like most of you, if you are reading reviews for these pants, I am always on the hunt for that perfect pair of practical (or cargo, or tactical, as you prefer) pants. I am not military or law enforcement, and I don't really want to look like a Wannabee - but I do engage in practical activities that require a good pair of practical pants. I'm a competitive shooter (mostly IDPA) and need pants that can hold and stow a lot of gear for a long day at the range. I also need them to be strong and durable, comfortable, and to allow good freedom of movement. And yeah, I will also wear them all weekend long too, or on trips around town. There are a few key brand names in the Tactical Pants business. 5.11 is one, perhaps the most popular or well known. It is difficult to discuss the attributes of a pair of Tac pants without making the obvious comparisons to 5.11. Add to that - this pant is designed VERY SIMILAR in many aspects to the 5.11 Tactical pants. Therefore, it is almost necessary to compare them side-by-side. I recently purchased my first pair of Propper pants, in Gray lightweight, 32x30. If you don't want to read all the way through - here's the cut to the chase: I like them very much and will probably buy more. Now, here's why: - Quality of finish and materials is top notch. There are no loose threads, no crooked seams, no dropped stiches. Good stuff all around. - Rip-stop material is light but incredibly strong. You will get a lot of wear from these pants before they hit the rag pile. They also feel very breathable, unlike a typical synthetic feel. This could just be because they are lightweight, but it works. - Sizing is very accurate. One important note however - the sizing is a very true sizing, not ego sizing. I have several 5.11 pants in 32 waist and they are much looser than these Propper pants are at the waist. That is good and bad... it's okay if you really do know and order your real size, but not if you rely on the "extra" that most clothing makers give these days. That said, I would like a wee little bit of relaxation to the waist. The expandable elastic waistband is a bit rough on the skin. This is in part due to the synthetic material (opposed to soft cotton), but worn snug they will leave some red marks. - The Propper pants are almost a carbon copy of the 5.11 design, but for a few key and very noteable exceptions: --- Rear pockets are not as low cut as 5.11, but run straight across at the back --- Inside the rear pockets (which are large and roomy) there is a second pocket that is "regular sized" and perfect for a wallet. This is a HUGE plus for me, because I hate my wallet rolling around inside the 5.11 pants and landing in all sorts of uncomfortable spots. The wallet stays put right where it should be in the Proppers - whether you are a right or left cheeck kinda guy... they are both there. --- The front right pocket has a watch pocket as well as a small inner sub-pocket at the bottom. Both good to have. The left has neither and is just a normal pocket. Front pockets are well cut with a good angle, allowing easy in/out access for your hand - even if you're holding something in your hand... --- Fewer belt loops on Propper than on 5.11, and differently spaced. --- Less material in the crotch area on Propper than on 5.11. If you do significant crouching activities, you may notice the difference. --- The fly is shorter on the Propper, maybe by 1/2" or more overall. This does have an ergonomic impact gentlemen (I prefer the 5.11 one). - Things that are same/similar to 5.11 Tactical Pro: --- The lower edges of the pocket stitching is reinforced for a knife or flashlight clip or similar. This should help prevent premature wear from metal clips. (front pockets only on Propper, 5.11 has it also on rears) --- Left side small cargo pocket, perfect for most cell phones, flashlight, magazine, etc. Basically identical to 5.11 --- Right appendix D-ring on belt loop --- Similar material weight and construction. Rip-stop synthetic blend. - Miscellaneous comparisons (in no particular order): -- 5.11 is overall more comfortable right off the bat, but Propper is cleaner looking and "dressier". -- Propper has much less "droopy flat butt" look than 5.11. Trade is comfort and flex versus ego and appearance. Your significant other will tell you that you look better in the Propper pants. :-) -- Propper includes a nice duty-style belt in the matching color of your pants. That's nothing to sneeze at, because even a cheap duty belt is $20 or more. The belt is great quality, but is a bit longer than it needs to be. A great added value. Overall, I don't want to give an opinion about one versus the other. I think the comparison is important, whether you're trying to decide between the two brands for a first purchase, or if you're familiar with 5.11 already. In the final analysis - I like these Propper Tactical Lightweight pants, and will order more. I have the gray - which is much darker than the photo here shows. Khaki would probably be my next choice, since summer is coming soon! Propper is about $10 less than 5.11, as of this writing. Consider the included belt, and that is a great value. I think you owe it to yourself to give them a try!

great pants for work or casual wear
I remember when I was first issued these pants for work a few years ago (a popular and prominent city in northern VA); we changed our uniforms and went with these pants and everyone I worked with (including myself) enjoyed the features and all the upgrades from the boring 'BDU' style pants we wore. Not only are these pants comfortable, but they have a lot of practical features and details. The FREE belt is a bonus, but the buckle kind of bulked out a little if you wore a duty belt with them, so I went with the velcro duty belt liner instead, but by themselves as casual wear, the belt included is just fine. They come in the usual 'law enforcement' colors, ie, black, dark navy and brown, but because of our jobs we went with the olive pants and the PROPPER tan shirts and it made for a great uniform combination. For duty wear, these are very comfortable and they held together wash after wash. I think as far as duty pants go, these were the best design for the dollar and they're very professional looking and I especially liked the straighter legs as opposed to the puffed out pockets of the BDU pants. These pants were my favorite uniform duty pants and it was a shame the day I had to turn them in when I left my job, but I definitely had to get a pair (in olive) for casual wear for hiking and camping and fishing. If you're a law enforcement official and looking to get a great pair of pants that offer a lot for your money, you can't go wrong with these. If you're looking for a comfortable pair of travel pants or casual pants for outdoorsy activities, you can't go wrong with these. They fit, feel and look great! I plan on getting some more as Summer turns to Fall.....

Favorite pants, easily
I bought a pair years ago. still wear them. I didn't realize they were high waisted. Turns out I love the style, I can stoop, bend and sit without showing my butt crack. My original pair despite wearing multiple times a week have not faded much, its basically the same color. The pocket has torn a little, and that's really it. In fact they have held up so well I bought more.

Godsend
So it’s hard to find pants that are durable but also inexpensive, these are just that, I’ve worn these for about 1-2 months and they are very nice. The pants do shrink when put in the dryer, but after 1 or 2 dries the will be fine, they still fit good. It’s easy to move in them, I have to do a lot of raising leg up high and climbing and I haven’t had these split or get too tight when moving. I have total mobility when moving around, they are comfy and they have good airflow. THERE ARE SO MANY POCKETS, like the back pockets are DEEP, they go down to the back of the knee, but they do have a smaller pocket in them for your wallet so very different if you’re not expecting it. I will be buying more of these

Great pants, if you can find the right size!
I work in a warehouse setting, so I was looking for some tactical pant that could hold up to the day in abuse. These seem to fit the bill, very durable, water resistant, comfortable, light weight, much more comfortable than the mil-spec pants I had before. I also like the d-ring in the front that's perfect for holding a badge, I.D, keys, or anything else you might need. I personally use it for my badge so that I can easily badge in and out of doors. However... I'm having a difficult time finding a pair that fits me. I purchased two pants 36/30 one in ranger green, the other in charcoal, the ranger green pants fit me perfectly, as do most 36/30 pants do, they're loose, but not too loose and they don't restrict movement. The charcoal pants, which are the exact same size by the tag, I can't even get buttoned, and they're ultra tight around the thigh, what gives Propper? I do like the pants, so what this means is I'll probably have to order three pairs of whatever color I'm trying to get, and hope that there's one out of the three 36/30 that actually fit correctly. The first pairs they sent me, one of them was tagged as the incorrect size, and I returned. These both have the same size on the tag, but clearly, one is much smaller. In summary: great pants, but man, they've got some QA problems that make it difficult for consumers to find the pair that works for them, when the same pants in different colors fit differently, or their just labeling them incorrectly at the factory. Best of luck, hopefully Propper can address this problem with their pants line soon, because it's an exercise in frustration.

My best pants
These pants have completely changed how I view pants. Before I was comfortable stuffing a large amount of things into a total of four pockets but now that I have a pocket for everything I just can't go back. The included belt is a very nice touch and it has done very well at holding both the pants up and keeping my firearm secure. The other benefit to the belt is the plastic buckle keeps you from making a ridiculous amount of noise like my Blackhawk instructor belt tends to do when trying to unbuckle. The cellphone pocket I tend to use as a spare magazine or knife pocket since my Galaxy Note 2 just barely squeezes into the pocket. It does fit but it looks stupid and tends to turn the phone on. I really enjoy the depth of the rear pockets and I especially enjoy the wallet pocket which keeps your wallet on hand but out of the way. It also keeps it from digging into your butt (at least for me). The front pocket edges are reinforced which is nice to see. It is also a nice spot to clip a flashlight or knife. I wear 30x32 and ordered exactly that and it fit true to size. I carry a firearm IWB daily and the elastic is fantastic because it expands enough to get your gun in and it doesn't deform the look of the pants. These pants are perfect for concealed carry. The Coyote color is a very professional look and while these aren't something that you'd wear to a business function (unless your business is military/police), these are something that you can wear a bit more formal. They can be ironed to get out wrinkles and the large cargo pockets don't bow out from the leg unlike combat pants. My only gripe about the pants is that they're incredibly loud. It reminds me of my ACUs in terms of the material and while that doesn't stop me from wearing them it does get annoying. They are as comfortable as they are loud though and comfort is a bigger factor for me than noise. These are excellent pants and I plan to order a lot more.
