## Description

Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan star in Nora Ephron's wonderfully romantic comedy about two people drawn together by destiny. Hanks stars as Sam Baldwin, a widowed father who, thanks to the wiles of his worried son, becomes a reluctant guest on a radio call-in show. He's an instant hit with thousands of female listeners who deluge his Seattle home with letters of comfort. Meanwhile, inspired in equal parts by Sam's story and by classic Hollywood romance, writer Annie Reed (Ryan) becomes convinced that it's her destiny to meet Sam. There are just two problems: Annie's engaged to someone else and Sam doesn't know yet that they're made for each other. Co-starring Rosie O'Donnell, Rita Wilson and Rob Reiner.

Review: Why Do We Watch It Over & Over Again??? - Well, it is a departure from the grist mill of everyday life we endure day in and day out. Some "Feel Good" movies are better than others . . . too much sugar coating makes one lethargic. "Sleepless" is just right. Odd that in the 2 or 3 bios I have seen on Tom Hanks, Sleepless In Seatle is never mention in his filmography. Mr Hanks probably thinks it beneath "Private Ryan" or others he has garnered awards for. It is not!! Sleepless is cast perfectly, from supporting slots filled so well by Ms O'Donnell, Rob Reiner and David Hyde Pierce . . . and the two leads with fantastic chemistry, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Absent foul language and sexual exploits You know the story line . . . who does not? This script has more memorized one liners used around our house than most any other film we enjoy. The opening scenes are so sad . . . the father and son at the grave of their wife and mother, and the friends and family trying to help . . . caring so much about this good man and his son. One immediatly starts thinking that the entire movie is doomed to walk this dark and emotional path. But NO! A change of venue opens up a refreshing new tact in the story, a chance call in encounter with a radio female "Frasier Crane" who's listening audience includes Annie Reed (Meg Ryan) from Baltimore, who is engaged to Walter (Bill Pullman) who is allergic to everything and a very VERY nice man. Actually, Bill Pullman's characture is one of the things this film does perfectly! Instead of this supporting role being portrayed as a guy we don't like, a thug or an idiot, Walter is really a great guy! Anyway, things are set in motion from this point on, and the film is simply "magic" as the storyline points out! Absent profanity and sexual content . . . . well, save be for a scene or 2 like this: ::::: Sam baldwin: I'll tell you what I'm doing this weekend, I'm getting laid. It's the 1990's and nobody's getting laid. I'm the only man in America who's getting laid this weekend and I haven't been laid that much. Six girls in college, maybe seven. [sees Jonah standing in the doorway] Sam Baldwin: How long have you been standing there? Jonah Baldwin: Forever. Sam Baldwin: What did you just hear me say? Jonah Baldwin: Six girls in college, maybe seven. Sam Baldwin: Seven... EIGHT! Mary Kelly. Jonah Baldwin: [holds Annie's letter] This is the one I like! This film does what it was designed to do, that is to be familiar and yet rich with surprises. Buy it and watch it often. You will like the way you feel after!
Review: Sleepless in Seattle continues to delight - I can’t count how many times my wife and I have watched Sleepless in Seattle, but it’s been enough... and when desertcart had a great deal we got it streaming to add to our streaming library. I’ll have to admit - I love everything up to the point Hanks and Ryan get together - I have never been a fan of their chemistry or more to the point, lack there of. But the film is a great ride and has countless charming moments and great acting. This is a story of daring to love again. The relationship between the son and father hinges on them moving on after the death of Hank’s onscreen wife. They were deeply in love and he’s hurting. On the other coast Meg has spent her life doing what’s expecting, being boring, and now she’s getting engaged to the wrong guy - who’s far too much the right guy. (again, I’m a bigger fan of she and that guy staying together, as she and Hanks just do not click - my wife agrees). But beyond that everything is a great ride. The cast is outstanding, the characters interesting and unique, and the story itself is good - a fun RomCom. On the other side, this movie has given us some fun and memorable moments - Rosie and Meg crying over old movies, Hanks’ real life wife, Rita, crying over old movies, Hanks and Gray crying over old movies... and the radio host giving us some of the original “real world drama” on Christmas night - when Meg sings Horses, horses, horses... This is a date night film, a Sunday afternoon, cuddle with your wife, or rainy day way to spend some time enjoying something delightful.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My absolute favourite movie @}->---
*by L***R on November 19, 2006*

Other than The Breakfast Club, Sleepless in Seattle is my all time favourite movie. I know it's older now, but to me I will always watch it over and over again. I like to watch it a couple of times a year because I always enjoy it and never tire of it. As everyone probably knows, Tom Hanks and his son move from Chicago to Seattle after Tom's wife dies and they need a new start. Hoping to find a new love for his father, Jonah calls a radio station to speak on a talk show to help his dad out. Their radio call name is Sleepless in Seattle. Listening to the conversation all the way in Washington DC is Meg Ryan who has just announced her engagement to Bill Pullman. She seems to fall in love with Sam (Tom Hanks) instantly as she finishes his sentances and is hooked by his story. Being a writer, she does a story on him and finds herself wanting to get in touch with him. She makes the journey over to Seattle and manages to say Hello to him (before almost getting hit by cars on a busy road). She backs off after thinking that he's in a relationship already and heads back home. All the while through the movie, these events parallel the movie An Affair To Remember, so eventually there is an arranged meeting for Annie and Sam on top of the Empire State Building on Valentines Day (Sam hasn't arranged any of this; Jonah has done all the correspondance without his knowledge). Long story short, you can gauge the rest of the story line. It's fun and enjoyable and yes it's a chick flick but there is nothing wrong with that. There is some great acting in it by Jonah (Ross Malinger) and the chemistry between Hanks and Ryan is always great to watch (although they don't have many scenes together). I really love this and I don't imagine there being another great love story like this one. Nora Ephron did a great job with the screenplay and I will never get sick of watching this movie. It really is fantastic.
