This datalogger is very easy to use and the logged data is stored nicely as an Excel document on a SD card. This made making graphs and using the data very easy. The only thing I didn't like is the 2 second minimum interval for readings. This isn't fast enough to catch the starting amperage of a motor every time. There is no problem hooking it all up live as long as you are careful. Any larger wire sizes would most likely be in an installation subject to more amps than that max rating, possibly damaging the device(s) if deployed to same.
