Is this 1" in diameter for cables to go thru or 1" wide flat? Makes a big difference.

It is one inch inside diameter once it is opened up and rounded before inserting cable or line. I did not use this size, but the 1/2 size for a 7/16 inside diameter fuel line. It did fit OK, but was very snug when sliding through the fuel line through it.

Can this be used to insulate a 12 volt diesel heater exhaust pipe? I want to use it as a heat barrier so the exhaust stays cooler.

If you turn it inside out. I used it for the exhaust on my diesel heater, but in a different way. I sliced it length wise and lined a larger pipe through the wall then ran exhaust through that. Shiny side is what reflects the heat.

Can i wrap this around a standard car battery?

It’s not a wrap it’s like a tube. so as long as it’s big enough you can slide it through it. I’ve done battery cables and fuel lines with it.
