This means the water that is being pushed through the system has longer contact through each stage of filtration. When Adding Our Salt Based Softener Ion exchange softeners have been around for decades. The technology behind the process hasn’t changed however the technology in the systems is leaps and bounds ahead of where it all started. The systems today are more efficient and have much less waste than they ever have. The system has resin inside the tank that is washed in a sodium solution. That sodium solution is drawn out of a tank known as the brine tank that holds the salt.
