Cold Steel All Purpose Tactical Machete with Sheath

Can do must of the chopping work of a small-medium ax and all the duties of a machete. Very well made very well put together. Size is about perfect in it will pack well but still big enough to handle any chopping task shy of cutting down a larger diameter tree. Will chop kindling and firewood well especially if you use a small log as a mallet to assist in spitting wood. I feel a must have camping and survival tool. Sheath is also well made and not all cheaply done. Well worth the price you really get your moneys worth from this chopping tool.Like to add when I bought this Cold Steel Royal Kukri machete I also bought a Accusharp carbide blade knife sharpener. The Cold steel Kukri came only OK sharp. Yes it would cut you, but I felt it to dull for my liking. So I did 50 passes with the Accusharp, tested the blade for improvement and repeated, 50 test, 50 test etc. After 250 passes the Cold Steel Kukri was very sharp and no doubt I could get it even sharper as it's sharpness improved noticeably with every 50 passes of the sharpener, but I got it sharp enough to cut anything I will need to with minimal effort.All in all I can highly recommend both the Cold Steel Kukri Machete and the Accusharp knife sharpener.

Ordered this little beauty from Stealth Rabbit for $32 on Thursday, received it on Saturday with free shipping. Props.Pros:Weight Balance & Feel: Balance point is about 4 inches from the guard. Weighs right around 22oz, or ~1.4 lbs. Blade stock is about 2.5mm 1055 High Carbon steel with a very forward heavy blade. It is very sturdy and makes short work of shrubbery and small- medium diameter trees (along with cardboard boxes and water bottles). Handle is comfortable (although I recommend gloves, especially if you have small hands), and very large- so if you have large paws you'll feel right at home. The guard, while it may look a little bit odd is completely unobtrusive, and does not get in the way. Mine came relatively sharp with a decent convex edge- I recommend using a steel or file on the edge to get rid of the burrs when you first get it. It's a working edge, so don't expect a razor (it will cut paper out of box). The secondary bevel has a good profile, so if you are completely anal about honing it to a polished edge, re-profiling won't be a major issue.Cons: The sheath is a medium quality, riveted ballistic nylon sheath, just like one that comes with every other CS machete. It is not quick draw, but it is adequate for $30. Again, you can make or custom order a leather/ kydex sheath if you're really anal about it. Red Hill Kydex makes nice ones.The bottom line: Buy it. This is of superior design and quality than Gerber, SoG, and most other machetes in this price point. Condor also makes very high quality machetes in a similar price range, so look into those as well.BTW: This is a fairly adequate substitute for a Kopis/ Falcata style sword one might find on KoA, so if you want to try out something new that won't break the bank- this is your ticket right here.

Good God this is the best machete I have ever owned. I have 7 other machetes, and only one comes close to this beast of a blade. (It's a mini gerber parang) it is by far the best chopping tool I've seen. I'm a pretty big guy, but I'm sure even smaller people could easily chop through a branch 3/4 of an inch thick. It's incredibly powerful, and came razor sharp. It has a great edge for chopping. The other reviews mentioned it wasn't very sharp. IT IS. It's pretty much the perfect edge, with a great chopping edge at the front, and a razor sharp skinning edge at the base.The blade is about as thick as an average window, about 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch thick, which is plenty to stand up to thick hardwood.The sheath is pretty good, seems pretty durable and it gets the job done. I would like it if I could just slide it in and out, but that would be impossible because of the shape of the blade.The balance is very good, but it takes a little getting used to. I have fairly large hands, and they fit very snugly on the handle, which is very comfortable. This is one amazing product.

This is my second South African Cold Steel machete. My first impressions are that it is as expected at this price. Let's break it down.The blade comes sharp. I have had some in the past with a full burr on it. It cost $20, so a little sharpening never bothered me. This one had a nice burrless edge. Grind was a little uneven, but not unsightly. I took off one star for the unfinished edges on the knife. Describing it is difficult, but if laid with the label side up, the edges get wider towards the non labeled side. It kind of looks like as if it settled while left on its side. I'm sure this was a product of the stamping machine, but needs to be fixed.The shape reminds me of a cross between Cold Steel's Kukri machete and the Kopis machete. It nicely angled on the spine, but has the elegant belly of the Kukris. The steel seems to be decently hard but exhibits the normal amount of flex I like on a machete. The balance point is about 4 inches in front of the handle, or halfway between the handle and the crook of the spine. It gives a nice weight forward feel, but can still be recovered like a normal Latin style machete. A great nod to the advantages of the kukri design.The handle is a rubber molded type with a bit of spring to it. It is ribbed and checkered over its entire surface. The shape and size are comfortable for my medium hands. If you have large hands, your pinky will most likely rest on the palm swell just before the lanyard hole.Sheath isn't fancy, but holds the blade securely. It has three straps that snap in place. One on the handle, one above the crook, and below the crook. The area along the spine is left open, so with the straps loose, the knife is pulled out the back instead of the top. I will make my own sheath, so the ease of use isn't a problem for me. It is better suited for storage than for carry.Overall a great product. You may be disappointed if you are expecting 50 dollar quality from this. This is a great deal for $20, but it is rough around the edges. I enjoy putting the finishing touches on my knives, so this is perfect. Would recommend.Update: bought a second one in Jan 2019. Sheath quality is better, the edge was ground evenly with the slightest wire edge, and the stamping machine doesn’t look like it has been changed. The edges are more chowdered. The stamping dies really need to be replaced; tool steel only lasts so long. Other than that, still a good machete to match the one my dog may have chewed the handle of.

This is a fantastic machete. If you want a kukri that mirrors cold steel's $500 designs, this should suffice. Mine came nearly superb, with an even, slightly convex edge, which is good for large outdoor blades. The blade was shaped nicely, with a grind on the spine that shifts to one side, kind of like a chisel, giving the tool a slight false edge on the spine. This is probably just the result of how the shape was punched out of the steel sheet, but I don't mind it, as it makes a good limb breaker or flint striker. Very front heavy, but not uncomfortably so, giving the kukri a weight the does the work for you, which is important for long term uses. The handle is exceptional, and promotes a strong grip even minus a lanyard. The perfect size for a compromise between a hatchet and a generic machete, and well suited for self defense as well. Trust me, I'm an avid martial artist. This would rock anyone's world. Keep her oiled, and the blade should be fine. Good steel and great performance. Fits to a backpack for anyone who carries theirs that way. An excellent purchase, and a kukri that I'm proud to own and trust for a myriad of unexpected outdoor tasks.

It's a quite nice machete, and the angle makes handy work of lopping branches to clear a trail.Pretty comfortable on the belt, though a bit long.Spends much of its time stored through loops on my backpack when not in use and has held up well to repeated hiking and trailblazing.Sharp, but is not made of high grade steel that would hold an edge forever - it's a machete, meant to get beat up quite a bit, not some heirloom masterwork, so this is expected.As long as you expect a machete, and use it for machete purposes, it's hard to go wrong with this one.Due to the curve and taper of the blade, can be a bit annoying to remove from the sheath. Again, this is expected on a blade with such an extreme curve and taper, so not a design flaw.

Just got it today. The blade seems to be really good. It is tip heavy which makes quick recovery a little tough but the hacking power is there. Very sharp out of the box. A better sheath with a quick draw ability is the main reason for 3 stars. Great blade otherwise !

I have used this type of weapon before in the military, the Indian has a heavier, thicker tip to help cut though. This was great though, enough weight to work, sharp, and the grip worked very good. I used this to cut up flowered pompass reeds, very tough at the base, 3-4" stems, and this cut right through them.

Die Kukri kam in erstaunlich gutem Zustand an. Scharf geschliffen, ohne irgendwelche Aufkleber, die Hülle ist solide verarbeitet. Nach einem Einsatz im Garten hat sich an der Schärfe nichts geändert! Die Kopflastigkeit der Kukri ist beim Hacken ein großer Vorteil, beim beschneiden von Büschen muss man etwas an seiner Technik feilen, dass es nicht anstrengend wird. Das einzige Manko ist, dass für mich der Griff ein wenig klein ist, doch mit "normalen Händen" sollte es passen.

Eu achei que fosse da África do Sul mas infelizmente é da china a qualidade é inferior. Não é aço carbono 1055 é aço chinês 65MN, NÃO GOSTEI. NÃO COMPREM PENSANDO QUE É DA ÁFRICA DO SUL POIS É DA CHINA.

Amazingly sharp out of the box, dunno if I just got lucky, Cold Steel has had some issues in the past with QI on their products in the past IMHO but this was definitely top notch work, nicely greased and sharpened to a T. Good work boys.

beim auspacken des kukri habe ich schon gedacht .. so schleifstein raus und heißluftpistole ran. dieses mal nicht! top verarbeitung der griff ist fest und hat super grip. erster test im wald steht noch aus aber vom handling 1a genau richtig. man merkt das die jungs von cold steel die dinger bis zur perfektion testen. ( gerade bei dem ROYAL KUKRI ) dieses hat alle vorzüge- parrier element damit die finger heile bleiben- verbesserter schwerpunkt- an toten schweinen getestet ^^ sind die anderen auch aber dieses geht wie moses durchs rote mehr

This really deserves a better rating - mine arrived very sharp with a uniformly ground blade profile, just needed a quick honing to bring out the edge. One thing to note about most Cold Steel Machetes is that they use a 1055 carbon steel blade which is superior to most of the steels found in competing machetes in the same price range for the intended use (withstands shock and holds edge well)
