## Description

Join the last adventure of Tai and Agumon! An unprecedented phenomenon occurs and the DigiDestined discover that growing up means an end to their relationships with their Digimon. On top of that, the DigiDestined realize that the more they fight with their Digimon, the faster their bond breaks. Will they fight for others and risk losing? The time to choose and decide is approaching fast. Tai and Agumon, along with the rest, will be forced to risk everything in their epic last adventure. “An impressively bold and mature final installment, Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna realizes the full potential of its cast and the power of a definitive ending, driven by an inventive visual sensibility, exciting set-pieces, and heart-wrenching emotional stakes.” - Kambole Campbell, IGN

Review: Great Movie - Arrived in great condition, liked that it’s available in both English and Japanese audio with subtitles.
Review: A beautiful swan song for the original digidestined - Spoilers ahead. "You cannot alter your fate, but you can rise to meet it if you choose." - Wise woman of the Amishi. Yes I am making a favorable comparison of this movie to a Miozaki film, because last evolution is a good story for the same reason that princess mononoke is a good story. Early in the film Tai and Matt learn that as they grow up their digivices will cease to function and that their digimon will disappear when that happens, and it will eventually happen to all of the digidestined. Further using them to digivolve will accelerate the process. This is explained by a former digidestined who this has already happened to. This woman turns out to be the antagonist. She has constructed, within the digital world, a space where the digidestined are locked in childhood with their Digimon so that they never have to experience the pain of having their digivice cease functioning. A safe space if you will. During the protracted final confrontation of the film Matt and Tai have to repeatedly choose to sacrifice remaining time with their digimon to try and save the digidestined who have already entered the safe space. The climactic moment of the battle comes when the brain washed digidestined join the fight against Matt and Tai, and in a last act of defiance Tai grabs the whistle around child Kari's neck and blows it, in a call back the moment in the first digimon movie where Tai and Kari were helpless children and the only thing Tai could do was blow the whistle. This snaps the the other digidestined out of the safe space and returns them to their adolescent ages.It is then that the tide of the battle turns. Choosing this moment is genius as it reveals the true effects of the antagonist's actions. She isn't protecting the digidestined from pain, but rather infantilizing them and leaving them perpetually helpless, just as Tai and Kari were helpless the first time they encountered Digimon. This moment mirrors another trait of the safespace in that it must be rejected by those it claims to help. Returning to the princess mononoke comparison. What if Ashitaka had decided to spent his last days among his loved ones while the boar mark spread and killed him? That would be an understandable choice, however it would make for a depressing and worse, boring story. If Matt and Tai had at any time deciding to just spend as much time with their Digimon is possible, they couldn't be faulted for it, but the story would have been depressing and boring. The takeaway from both stories is that hardship and pain await everyone, but it must forthrightly confronted rather than shrunken away from, and that those who seek shelter from that reality are at best passive observers of their own fate and at worst well meaning villains conspiring with the naive to keep them helpless children.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A long time coming, but very worth it!

I had really hoped to see this film in theaters back in March, but sadly COVID put a stop to that. I pre-ordered this a while back and it was a wonderful surprise to find it arrived in the mail today. I have to say: after a long wait, it was everything I’d hoped for. It blends Digimon Adventure 01 and 02 pretty seamlessly and it’s jump-on friendly so no worries if you haven’t seen Digimon Adventure Tri. A nostalgic, heartfelt ending to a series I’ve adored for as long as it’s been around.
