Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box, Surround Lighting for TV Entertainment & Gaming Compatible with Alexa

If you’re more interested in syncing your lighting to music than to video or you don’t need the media you’re watching to be on a TV screen you’re better off with the free Philips Hue Sync app on a laptop or the Spotify integration in the Hue mobile app. Although I am happy with this product, I wouldn’t exactly recommend it to anybody. You already know whether or not you want this product and whether or not it’s going to be worth it to you. The vast majority of users of Hue really don’t need this. This is extremely overpriced for what it is and synced lighting can be pretty hit or miss. It’s amazing for music visualizers, music videos and very vibrant movies but it can very easily take away immersion in low-lighting scenes. It always seems to go for white light rather than the absence of light when there’s mostly the color black on the screen which is pretty distracting in my opinion.

This completely transformed our living room for movie nights and gaming. It sits between your HDMI sources and the TV and syncs your Hue lights to whatever is on screen in real time. Watching something with a sunset and the whole room glows warm orange, a space scene and everything goes deep blue. It's genuinely impressive how fast it reacts and the immersion it adds is something you don't appreciate until you see it in person. Setup was a bit fiddly getting all the HDMI cables sorted but once it's done you don't need to touch it again. Gaming on the Xbox with it running is a whole other level, especially in darker atmospheric games. It's not cheap but if you've already invested in the Hue ecosystem this is the showpiece that ties it all together. Friends always comment on it when they come over.

I have no idea why this item is so expensive. It works as intended and it does it well but it seems outrageously over priced, considering it cant do anything on its own and only really shines when combines with about 5 other lights. Not something you'd want if you've just got into Hue, one for when you've built up a collection first.

Initially I was a little disappointed as, like others, I experienced the Sync Box losing connection. However, after a little digging I found this could be easily resolved by: - replacing the supplied Philips HDMI connecting the Sync Box to the TV, with a good quality/fast lead - I know, it's ridiculous given the cost! - Use the two fastest HDMI ports (2 & 4) on the Sync Box for the most demanding inputs (i.e Firestick/games console etc), Philips confirmed these have more bandwidth. Something like a Freesat/SKY box will work happily in one of the other ports - if you are using a Fire Stick/Roku this should be connected directly into the back of the Sync Box without the use of an extender cable Since this was done our box hasn't missed a beat during movies or whilst listening to music/video content via Prime Music. It is expensive, but for those already heavily invested in Hue coloured bulbs this is a no brainer.

I was ready to return this because my lights only showed dim white but, after researching lots and lots on Reddit and other places, it was possible to get it working by setting my fire TV cube display settings to adaptive HDR instead of always on. I put the fire TV cube into HDMI 2 of the sync box and set set the HDR setting in the hue app. Now it works perfectly in combination with all the hue lights and the TV bars by hue in my room. I'm so happy that it all works now. Originally, I had some TV back lights that had a camera mounted on the screen which kind of worked but because I have coloured lights in my room, the colours on the screen picked up by the camera were not accurate I don't get that with a Philips ambilight TV because the image it uses is internal just like the HDMI sync box. Sometimes the hue sync takes a while to connect to my hue bridge, I can set it to low or a strong effect and the brightness too . I got mine on offer from Amazon, I see a few on offer and I suspect many people had the same dim white bulbs problem and sent it back because they didn't know that the always on HDR of the fire TV OS wasn't the problem (It is set to on by default). I've seen a few messages report that the HDR on the source device can be a problem with this box. Switching off HDR options is usually the solution. It can look extreme with the right video but, with normal movies and TV the effect is subtle and very immersive. You don't notice it until it is gone I'm never going back too flat regular TV again! [Edit] I read that sometimes the sync box can take a while connecting if it is in a weak Wi-Fi area. What this product does is exactly same as what the Hue Sync App on mobile/PC does - for free… So you’re paying an unbelievably expensive price for something that should definitely be priced under £100 However the other reason for my low rating is that this item syncs the brightest of the lights at not as high quality as I was expecting, so when watch tv and movies some parts will appear brightly lit and look great, while other times the brightness gets reduced too much it doesn’t look so good. The performance is therefore average for the price you’re paying. Philips need to improve this in order to justify the cost!

The Philips Hue Play HDMI combined with the Gradient Lightstrip has completely revamped my entertainment setup. Setup was a breeze, and the effects are great with vibrant colours improving the viewing experience. The integration with Spotify, where the lights sync and pulse to the rhythm of the music is also a great feature or you can just adjust colours and brightness to personalise the room like other Hue lights. The combined cost is a little pricey but I'm happy that I decided to go for it.

Great bit of kit. Only downside I had was after initially setting everything up and using it for the first time (about 5 hours), the next time I pulled up the sync app, it wouldn't connect. Work round was accessing my router and disabling the 5ghz bandwidth whilst I done a factory reset of the sync box, connected everything back up and followed the app instructions again. Turned the 5ghz back on after an hour. No problems since

I've got Phillips Hue lights throughout my small apartment and especially in my lounge where I watch TV.. I love the aesthetic ambiance of light and the moods they create. They give me seemingly infinite possible lighting combinations, but sometimes it's hard to choose which colours I want. I thought I might try the Hue Synch box and see if it enhances my experience. Wow it really works. It was relatively simple to set-up and easy to control via the app. I have white walls and a foot (30cm) wide white bench under my wall mounted TV. I've attached some white plastic ducting to the front of the top of the bench and placed two overlapping Hue lightstrips to shine up onto the wall under and around the TV - this works well. I've also included several other Hue light strips and lights from around my lounge behind me into the Synch set-up. The main problem was that the Synch box needs to be between the source of the TV programs and the TV. This is not possible with a Smart TV with included apps. But I bought A Google TV Chromecast dongle (which acts like a smart TV for YouTube/Netflix and Amazon Prime etc as well as local TV apps) and I play from this dongle through the Synch. The Synch in video mode gives wonderful additional ambiance for TV shows. I usually use it on the most steady setting. Synch also has a Music mode which I most luse on its high variability setting. I enjoy the additional party energy of Music synched lighting. Synch also has a Game mode setting but I haven't used this yet. Overall a very good addition to my Phillips Hue setup and brilliant enhancement of my home experiences.

Après avoir longuement hésité à acheter ce produit et le lightstrip 55'', pour faire de mon plasma pioneer 50'' un Ambilight, je suis entièrement satisfait de mon achat coûteux. Tous mes périphériques (consoles, freebox player, ps3) sont branchés sur les entrées de mon ampli. Puis la sortie de l'ampli vers l'entrée HDMI 1 du Play HDMI qui possède 4 entrées, puis la sortie du Play HDMI vers l'entrée de la TV. Toutes les sources sont donc détectées pour l'Ambilight. Par contre, si vous choisissez le mode musique (lumière au rythme de la musique), le son doit sortir de la TV et non des enceintes de votre ampli. Aussi tout est commandable par l'assistance vocale Google pour l'allumage/extinction, mode, luminosité et intensité. On peut également utiliser l'application Hue sync sur le smartphone. Aussi ces commandes peuvent être paramétrables sur la télécommande Logitech. Conclusion, produits onéreux pour faire de votre tv un Ambilight, mais vous serez conquis. A savoir un nouveau boîtier play HDMI sync box sortira bientôt pour le 8k.

Apple Tv 4k ve Tv+ 4k ile beraber kullanıyorum. Samsung Q80 Tv kullanıyorum. Gayet başarı oldu. Dünya kadar hue ampul almıştım boş boş duruyordu. (Toplamda max 10 hue ve 4 hdmı kullanabiliyorsunuz snc icin ) Apple Tv hdmı 2 de sayesinde ( netflix ve diger uygulamalarımla snc oluyor. Tv yayını tv+ hdmı 1 de [Tv uglumaları ve yayın hdm ile baglı olmadığı icin doğal olarak olmuyor ] Burdan almadan önce okuduğum yorumlara cvp veriyim. 1-Snyc box sürekli kopuyor deniyordu . Crashes regulary, with the screen turning red/white for around 5-8 seconds, and also causes the audio/video to go out of sync.
