You keep the bread in its plastic bag but pull the open end inside-out over the edge of the container. You can then pull the plastic bag down over the outside of the container and it lifts the loaf to the top. The plastic bag is sealed between the container and the lid with a minimum amount of air inside.

would this fit rye, pumpernickel bread?

These dispensers fit standard loaves of sandwich bread. They will not fit rye or pumpernickel.

Will this hold Pepperidge farm farmhouse sized bread? Or just the smaller square loaves?

The bread buddy fits standard sandwich size loaves. I don't believe the brand you mentioned will fit.

What are the holes for?

They let air in to prevent a vacuum when pulling the plastic bag up to get to the top of the loaf.

No good for UK bread!

This is useless for Uk bread size! The slices are bigger than the tub therefore they do not fit! Very disappointed! Why advertise in the uk when it’s not fit for purpose!

Keeps bread fresh and is easy to use. Have used it for standard size and Texas toast loaves. There are small holes at the bottom that prevent “suction” so it is easy to place the loaf into and slide the bag down to keep bread at the top. I am very happy with this purchase
