I read reviews that it gets dull quick, has that been the case with everyones experience with the 3/8 bit?

I don't know if it gets dull quickly or not. The one I bought is still stuck deep in the wall where it broke off the first time I used it.

I have to run 12/2 single line what size drill would you recommend

The answer is the always popular "it depends". Grab any bit set with large enough bits to compare to your 12-2 cable. Find the smallest bit that is larger than the cable with insulation, etc. on it exactly as you intend to pull the cable. Standard 12-2 romex ought to go through a 5/8 inch hole, but I would prefer to use a 3/4 inch hole if I could. I have samples of two kinds of 12-2 that would need at least a 1 inch hole due to the sheathing on them. Be sure to allow for any fittings that you plan to pull (which is sometimes necessary but almost always a bad idea).

How could this work with your extensions when this has a triangular shank and the extension has a 1/4 hex end ?

It appears that the extension grabs the drill bit with two set screws. So, as long as the triangular shank fits within the receiver, the set screws will securely hold the drill bit. Not to worry.
