I also don't know if it is a knockoff. I may have saved the instructions, but they're buried in a deep tool drawer. All I can tell you is that it works great with balsa and if the blade is new, you can strip Popsicle sticks. **Q: Can this balsa stripper also strip mahogany strips?** A: It may work, f the wood were very straight grain, and I would believe would be 1/32 thickness or less. Probably would be OK for trim stripping. But it is really made for balsa, using Xacto type blades. **Q: I have 1/16” basswood I am interested in cutting into thin strips. Will this tool be able to slice my basswood into strips?** A: I haven't used this for basswood but, I don't see any problem with 1/16. I replaced the plastic tension plate with a piece of metal (copper). No more slipping. *by B***. on April 30, 2025* It looks OK. The blade retention screws start off very tight. Difficult to secure blade. The adjustment screw has some free play. Haven't used yet. UPDATE: June 6, 2025. I like the way this tool works. Very simple concept. But the plastic retaining "clip" for the blade is not. It shattered under pressure. If you don't apply enough pressure the blade slips making the process very frustrating. this is not a cheap product but the quality of the plastic material is not in my opinion.
