You need to calm down...
Horror movie goers now-a-days are, by choice, exTREMEly hard to please. They expect the perfect movie every time they pay their money to be entertained beyond all expectations, without a shred of understanding of what actually goes on in making a piece of art like this. And when they DON'T get it, they make the mistake of confusing their own boredom and lack of vision for the art they just watched being "not this" or "not that". It's ridiculous because their diatribes end up thwarting movie fans from actually taking a chance on films like this. The fact is, this sequel is PERFECT. The first LE was, admittedly, part of the whole found footage bandwagon. However, while low-budget and a little shaky on the directing, it was a fun movie. In retrospect, I think it was a brilliant movie, especially now that we have Part II. And I'm glad they decided to title it "Part II", because just calling it TLE 2 doesn't do it justice. It actually IS the second part of a story of the "beginning of the end". I think where people get a little irritated is that they aren't spoon fed their backstory and character development. I think the major difference in this film is the acting. The acting is actually really well done for this budget film. I believed the characters, wholeheartedly. But, overall, this movie is shot differently, written differently, directed differently, and it does exactly what it's supposed to do: put in you into a different frame of mind for the second half of this awesome story. You aren't given a lot of information on purpose. You kind of just "wake up" like Nell does and you're just as in the dark as Nell is. There are a lot of jump scares in the beginning , because it IS a horror film and you need to give the picky-pants something to pay for, but I noticed that they kind of started at the beginning and ended towards the middle, giving you a perfect segway from first to second movie (if watched back to back), which I believe is what should be done. Honestly, I love these two movies together more than I love them individually. And the ending while a little quick, is very inventive and fun. You actually end up rooting for...well, watch it. If you can, watch the first one, then watch this. It's FUN! Let the nay-sayers keep nay saying. This is good times!

Great Pair
Arrived on 11/8/20 again in perfect condition and good function testing. I have the first one in the series which is a good movie. But I heard the not so great reviews on the sequel. But I watched it and thought that the reviews were a bit critical. I liked 2 and sure it's not the same as the shock value that always comes with a new story. But it is a very good follow up to the first. And still had the same lead actor to continue forward. If watched back to back as a series is done it's all good. So I thank you for the addition. - JIMI

hmmm
After renting this movie, I quickly asked myself why I do these things to myself. I guess at the time I just wanted my girlfriend to be clinging all over me and it worked because she absolutely hates movies like this and ends up having bad nightmares every time she watches one. But this movie also messed with me a little bit, I swore I was seeing things, like little demons lerking around the corners when walking to and from the bathroom. Overall tho it was a good movie.

Subpar sequel, screams of money-grabbing
The first film, the Last Exorcism, was weak overall. A decent way to spend an afternoon, but the story was light. There was barely enough to carry the first film. Going into a sequel with almost nothing from the first to help it along, I knew it was going to be a rough ride. And, I was right.Characters were introduced just to be cannon fodder. You barely get a feel for who they are and why they are there. Most, I just didn't care about or even understand why they are involved in the story. The main character, while better developed, never made a connection. If you knew the story, you understood her position, but she was so poorly written that I could not develop any feeling for her fate besides mild indifference. The attempt to blend religious influences came off awkward. It was if whoever was behind the script was guessing, that they did not make an honest attempt to understand why the locals believe in certain protective rituals or traditions. It reminded me of that line from Jurassic Park, where they were talking about the plants in the lobby. They said the owner didn't know anything about the plants, but picked them because they were pretty. That is how I see this film's approach to the religious aspects. They didn't understand a thing really, they just added them because they looked pretty and catchy. And then, we have the cliche ending with no resolution. I understand it. They wrote themselves into a corner with this script. But, THAT was the best they could do? THAT was it? It was the topper on a short, mismatch film of random thoughts and under-developed concepts.Rent? Sure. Netflix? Sure. Buy? Negative.

give or take
I put off seeing this sequel due to the poor reviews and it's one of those movies I look back on and think man, why didn't I see this in theatres. My tastes in movies rarely concern themselves with Oscar worthy material though. I enjoyed the first. I think the main actress is underrated at best and this sequel plays parody to that a tad. The ridiculous grin on her face at one point screams of a coming out party, but I fear the cruel nature of people in general will hold her back but I will gladly watch her act any day. The awkward innocence slowly being consumed by darkness seems to be her specialty though. And why is her name not on front billing? First of all this is Nell's story. The first movie only succeeded because of her. Let's be honest, given the nature of small budget movies, practical effects are expensive. And it shows here too. The scheme of things is grander here with more of what you got from the final act of the first movie and the small budget shows. There's some faulty cgi , offscreen kills most of the time (including an excellent one shot from the exterior of a house) but there's no shaky cam at play so I overlooked the less than stellar effects. There are tons of small references to the first movie that are delightful, shaky and all. The scares were dished out at a constant rate, every 4 to 6 minutes. Though most were more eerie than scary. However I enjoyed them immensely. Even the ones other reviewers seem to hate apparently. The opening was well done. The lift sequence was disturbing and awkwardly charming as if it belonged in the Poltergeist franchise. Also dug that whole Ringu sequence and the scenes that followed. I also liked the ending to this one but asking for a third The Last Exorcism would be absolutely silly. The title didn't help this movie at all and should have called itself The New Possession or something. The side character's aren't too interesting, but it isn't their story. So everyone made the most of what they had. Yea some character relationships didn't go anywhere but that's life, so what? Others came out of nowhere, I'm going to have to rewatch the beginning because I wonder if I missed the introduction to the Chris character or not. He seemed to just appear out of nowhere early on and was explained in a later scene to me how he knew Nell. All in all if you liked the direction the first movie took in the end and thought whatever happened to Nell at it's conclusion you'll enjoy this movie.

A Better Part 2 than The Part 1
The only reason I'm taking the time to write this review is because of how pleasantly I was surprised at how much I liked this "part 2" version verses "part 1". I actually watched part 1 and part 2, back to back. I was in the mood for a good horror movie when I FINALLY decided to watch "part 1". I found most of it laughable/horror instead of just a horror movie. As I finished watching the first movie, it was still early enough to watch the second one. Wow! I was so glad that I did! It makes me want to rate the first movie up another star. Once you've watched the 2nd part, you'll understand why I say that too. I don't want to give away any spoilers, so I'll just leave it at that.

Is it REALLY the last one, or will there be a Part III?
Well written and directed with a lot of unexpected jumps and bumps along the way. If you're looking for a good startle that'll make you flip your popcorn more than once, this will do. The director was able to get great acting to come together with good scares and some unique material with great script writing. It also has a great ending. I really enjoyed this movie and recommend it.

Generic, uninspired, and definitely unoriginal sequel.
I saw the first film, and liked it. But this film was awful. Do not waste your time.Gone is the campy and enjoyable Mockumentary format.Gone is the funny, entertaining-to-watch ex priest who, at least in my opinion, pretty much made the first film.Gone is the tense ambiguity as to whether Nell's problems are psychological or real (the first film answered this question). What do we have instead? A series of incredibly generic scares and Nell wandering around alone getting spooked. There is a painful pattern in this film, and if you've seen other horror films (bad ones), you will know what I'm talking about.A) Main protagonist (Nell) is alone, wandering around, investigating something suspicious (noise, phone ringing, etc).B) Sudden scare occurs, startling her.C) Another character in the film soon shows up. Protagonist tries to explain, but the 'scary' event has conveniently passed just in time, making the protagonist seem 'crazy' to the other character. If you are even a casual viewer of the horror genre, then there is likely absolutely nothing in this film that you haven't seen before. The vast majority of the content is dominated by the above mentioned formula. Its cliché and requires no effort, just like how no effort was obviously put into this film. The plot itself was straightforward, simple, and slow moving, leaving little to stimulate you. People say there is a 'twist', but frankly I do not see how the ending qualifies as such. Its recycled to say the least, but I can't say more without spoiling it.The acting...is, ok, I guess; but when literally the film has nothing else going for it, even the best acting is not going to save it. The best performance is probably by the girl playing Nell herself; expect very much the same kind of act from her that you saw in the first film. She's wide eyed, confused, disoriented, unsure whether or not she's crazy (which is tedious; again the first film answered this), and generally panicky. Not the most entertaining character to watch, and sadly, she is as best as it gets.To give the film makers some credit, I think they had a tall order. The first film ended on a pretty intense and unforgiving note. There just wasn't much writing room to maneuver in a believable sequel to the finale of the previous movie. Maybe that answers the question though; as entertaining as the first film was, it should have been left solo.Regardless of the reasons, a bad and unoriginal movie is a bad and unoriginal movie. If somehow this is one of your FIRST horror films, you might enjoy it. But otherwise; nothing to see here, people.

This movie is far better than I expected before I saw it!
From the title "The Last Exorcism Part II", I known, this is a sequel, but I didn't saw the first part from 2010. After I watched this second part, I decided to buy it the first part as well!I bought this movie, because of Julia Garner, who's one of my favorite actress for a while, so this is a movie, in which she plays, and - as ever - she doesn't disappoint here either. She plays the character of Gwen, who is a young girl lives in a high-quality for young ladies, in New Orleans, Louisiana. This delightfully lovely yet strangely disquieting girl meet there with Nell, played by Ashley Bell.Miss Bell is a pure sensation for me: a genuine talent, with extremely suggestive acting character, thus she delivers terrific performance! The character which she plays, Nell, is a fragile and vulnerable young girl, who is not sure of herself. She wrestles with her inner demons, while she try to lives normal life, therefore she works as a cleaning lady, in a hotel. (As I wrote above, I didn't saw the first part of this story, therefore I can write about Nell only based on what I saw here!) Nell and Gwen will be nearly friends, despite Nell cannot trust anyone, including herself?! I really like this fickle nuance in Nell's character which absolutely believable in the marvellous acting of Ashley Bell. The ominous masked-figures who watches Nell during the festive of Mardi-gras, the obscurous personality of Gwen, and Nell's fight with her very-much-alive inner demons are interesting, scary, and believable at the same time. The story partly follows the well-known horror-schema, with classic turns, back-and-forth, yet at once, I could see refreshingly original ideas in the story. (I won't write more about the plot, because it would be a spoiler!)The two leading actress: Ashley Bell and Julia Garner are prominent, Louis Herthum (as Louis, Nell's late dad - who is appears in Nell's vision), and David Jensen (as Calder, in the character of the lead exorcist), delivers excellent performance, while the well-choosen supporting actors also do great job. The high-density, twisty, well-written script by Damien Chazelle and Ed-Gass Donnelly, the fine directional work by the latter, makes this Eli Roth produced sequel so entertaining!I state my honest respect to the beautiful and ethereal Ashley Bell, who is became one of my favorite actress immediately. Like as Julia Garner, who as Gwen, a bit angelic, a bit demonic too! Stunning! In sum: this movie is far better than I expected before I saw it. Therefore I give five stars to it. Highly recommended to everyone, who wanna feel some entertaining chills!

BELLO COME FILM
