I am from England and living in the USA and have to have English/British comfort food. This is one of them. They taste just like they did when I was growing up. Each time I eat one I am "home." Pastry is flakey and the filling is perfection. This is a regular buy for me.

Flaky, sweet, tasty cakes that are uniquely British. These are great with milk or tea.

Tiny compared the ones would have bought decades ago in the UK. But the currant filling tastes the same. Texture as expected, also. Good balance between pastry and filling. Fresh enough taste despite leaving the baker some time earlier. Transport from UK adds to the price, unavoidable, so a one-star deduction for that. Pricy, but a treat. I deserve a treat sometimes.

What a surprise! Looking for a tea cake, for afternoon and breakfast, but I had absolutely NO IDEA what I was doing! LOL! American good guess and little blessings, later? The filling is sweet but the currant destructs from the raisins (DO NOT FEAR THE RAISINS). This is NOT mincemeat - The butter it takes to form that flaky crust! WOW! How they pack them and they didn’t turn to dust? I - quite honestly - F’d up and used the microwave for 10 seconds and please, follow the directions for oven baking or use a toaster oven for warming through to capture that butter’s reaction with the crust/pastry and filling. I’ve never before had these or anything close.

I read about these somewhere and was curious, so I ordered them on a whim. Turns out I don’t very much care for a filling of raisins and dried currants. I’m chalking that up to personal preference and giving the cakes five stars anyway, because the pastry part is delicious and it is what the description says it is. As for the filling - well, this comes from the country that gave us fruitcake and beans on toast, so... you know... Also, worth noting - the pastry has kind of the texture of chicken pot pie pastry, with the taste of pop-tart pastry. If they made cakes just of this pastry I would eat Lancashire out of house and home.

A taste of home. Expensive and much much smaller than I remember. Very tasty though

These were small not like the ones in the UK which were larger in dia, but my main gripe was the pastry which was more akin to savoury pastry and the back was very hard in places ( the top was soft as it should be).
