The old switch was about 20 years old and the plastic mechanism inside finally broke. The four terminals are difficult (black on black plastic) to read on the switch L, 2, 1, 3 (clockwise order). Removing the 4 wires is simple, use a small screwdriver (1/8 in. flat blade or smaller) to release them. Follow the same wire color-number order as the original switch to insert the wires. I looked at numerous pictures & videos to find a recommended orientation for the switch in the fan housing, I found nothing.
