Review: For Adults,...Better Than "Star Wars", if One is Inclined to Religious Movies - I just watched this movie! As someone said, it exceeded expectations, and that on a laptop. As far as the truth, from a negative side, I sincerely believe that there are few Christians, and I don't go to church because there are few there. This movie was not realistic in that sense. The Antichrist is most surely coming, and I'd say, coming soon; and many who call themselves religious, will be completely taken in; that is obvious! There were biblical problems that would generally go unnoticed or unreported. "Clara," Karen Abercrombie, that taught "Liz," Priscilla Shirer, kept shouting at the beginning; I did not like that at all: One reviewer said, "overacting"; that for sure, and annoying. By the end this very "Clara" was convincing and sounded good, by my count. There was some mediocre acting at best; but most of the acting was either good, or excellent! On a positive note, as I said, most of the acting was above-par. The story was superlative, for: It showed all sin, and the nastiness of sin in the husband and father "Tony," T.C. Stallings; the positivity of Christian prayer, and love; the hard side of life; and what seemed to be natural reactions, especially in T.C. Stallings as the formerly "jerk" husband. Alex Kendrick did some excellent acting, and quite realistic--He is an excellent actor, at least! He was great for his short screen-time, this fact being appropriate and appreciated since he was the writer and producer, and had starred in another of his films. What superlative and human writing!! He acted, with a little more heart than most bosses, as the professional he was playing, calculating, as he was supposed to act as a big-time boss. Alena Pitts, "Danielle," did especially good acting for her obvious youth as the daughter. "Liz" went through real problems, as the main character. She showed how to be loving to a difficult spouse. "Tony," on the other hand, who completely turned around and became loving toward his wife and daughter, was a major jerk at the beginning. "Tony" had a breakthrough point that was very touching and masculine, questioning why "Liz" would treat her well; as did "Liz." Good acting, for sure, on the part of Shirer and Stallings with this. As far as Pitts, she did some excellent acting as "Danielle" when confronting her mother, "Liz," Shirer, about her coach, the name of her team, the team's colors: None of which "Liz" knew! The mutual heartbreak of the mother and "Danielle" was touching and revealing. Despite contrary claims, it was obvious at the beginning of the movie that almost no one loved or cared about the others. You'd have to see the end. As a Christian of almost 30 years, I'd say, yes,...as one commenter said, things don't progress and clear up, with God or with such problems, IN REAL LIFE!; however, I would say, it's a movie, and you don't want the characters to age 20 years before everything comes together, do you? I will say I was surprised by the movie and the story. That's all I will say,...SO YOU ENJOY IT. It's a two-hour movie. You really shouldn't get bored. It is THE BEST religious movie I've ever seen. Now, take into account that I am well-above 40. Those not of a faith-claim will reasonably, possibly, dislike the film, or not cheer it as I did. I saw Alex Kendrick in "Overcomer," and highly recommend that movie as well, for those considering it. This was better than that, but the other is good. If you like biblical or religious movies, I'd say this qualifies as quite enjoyable and emotional, without being too sappy. Please don't give a minute's thought to the critics; they are quite wrong.
Review: Good movie with valuable information - Excellent movie. The Kendrick Brothers make good movies. This movie is not based on a true story, nor is it a characterization of true to life events. It was a clean movie meant for family audiences. The thing I got out of this movie was how to pray specifically for others and how to set up a space to prevent distractions, (easy for me to get distracted).
