Tops Perma-Brew 3 Year Re-useable Coffee Filter, Disk/Wrap Around

I have tried all the paper filter and still have grounds in the bottom. This filter is the best of the best it works. That being said I need to make clear my process. I have a 12 cup percolator but I only drink 4 cups so the fact that the filter is small isn’t an issue for me, with so little grounds it doesn’t go over the top. If on the other hand you tried to use it for more a larger quantity of coffee it might be iffy. It’s easy to clean and so much better then folding the papers or the paper disks which float up and grounds go out. Maybe the company could make a bigger filter for those of us who make 12 cups at a time. Either way it’s perfect for my needs and should fit any percolator size.

The size of the filter was about a half inch shorter than advertised, but it still works very well in my fifty year old electric coffee pot. The price wasn't too bad, because it seems to be well made. It filters the coffee grounds nicely, so the coffee comes out tasting great.

I purchased the Farberware SS Yosemite 8-cup stove top coffeemaker, and with it, the suggested Perma-brew filter. (I don't like paper filters.) I made coffee just as I have always done with a perc brewer, and the filter lets grounds into the coffee. The advertisement says: "Micro-fine filter openings retain coffee sediments." Not true. That is deceptive since one assumes that any grind coffee will not have sediment in the coffee. I use a decaf coffee and the whole beans are no longer sold, so I have to use the usual bag of decaf...which is a fine grind. I expected the filter to actually keep the grinds from getting into the coffee. I was wrong. I don't want to go to a grocery store and use their machines for a coarser grind; it is a time-consuming project that I've found allows for other coffees, such as flavored blends, to affect the taste of what I grind. I can't use this filter if I don't want coffee grinds in my morning and afternoon "coffee breaks." I do not suggest that anyone buy it unless using coarse ground coffee. A waste of a purchase, and now I am faced with returning everything or using a paper filter. The coffee pot is just fine, but I wonder why the "new" FW SS Yosemite pot listed since I purchased mine only a matter of days ago, is better! The only difference seems to be that it's "new" with no explanation of why...and the rise in price. As of today, there are no reviews of it. I don't know why decaf whole beans are impossible to find in grocery stores and Walmart, but something is wrong. Decaf drinkers are left to use fine grind beans, and I'd rather grind my own from beans. There is plenty of proof that whole beans are tastier and fresher. Perhaps there are brands of decaf that I don't like that are still in whole beans, but I haven't seen any in my area. In any case, do not buy this perma-brew filter if you expect plain coffee without any sediment!

I recently bought this re-usable coffee filter because of the rising cost of paper disk coffee filters. I have a Presto 12-cup percolator coffee maker, and this re-usable filter fit inside the metal basket just fine. It made a great cup of coffee and there was minimal if any coffee grounds in the bottom of the pot! My only problem with this product is that it is SMALL. I can easily make up to 6 cups of coffee in my percolator using this filter, but it will definitely not hold enough ground coffee to make 12 cups. I do plan to keep this product since I usually make 4-6 cups of coffee at a time, but please note the small size.

UPDATE 04/23/2012: I had originally given this a 3 star rating when using it with the Bunn I used to have, and that still stands. I got tired of the quirks and so-so taste of the Bunn and actually gave it away. I am back to using my trusty Presto 12 cup percolator (it is better than the majority of percolators because it brews below boiling at about 200 degrees)and this little jewel of a filter helps make excellent coffee. No grit or sludge remains and it is better tasting than with the paper filters I have used. However, I can only use it make 4 6oz cups of java at a time (4 tablespoons of coarse ground coffee) but that is okay. END OF UPDATE!!! I do not like paper filters (have 2 French Presses), much less bleached ones. So, even though there were some not-favorable reviews, I decided to order the Perma basket. First time I used it I only made 25 oz of coffee because one reviewer had said it overflowed. Using the Bunn BTX-B 10 cup, 50 oz machine, with 5 heap'n tablespoon of drip ground beans to the 25 oz of spring water, it came out pretty good. I could actually tell the difference and was going to use it 'permanently'. Ooops, silly me! Today I jacked it up to 40 oz of spring water and used 8 heap'n tablespoons of drip ground beans and the sucker overflowed like the muddy, flooded Mississippi River! Grounds and coffee all over the counter top and a large puddle on the floor.....all in about 2 minutes while I was putting groceries in the fridge. I realize Bunn does not make this filter but I got the impression they endorsed it.....that is my fault. And, the advertisement leads you to believe it will work full capacity with your java maker. There should be a warning about the capacity capabilities of this basket....maybe some folks just want 25 -30 oz of java @ a time, then it might be fine for them...I am not even sure it could handle 30 oz...and I ain't gonna try to find out!! Bad product for the Bunn BTX-B if you want to use your coffee maker full capacity, or close it. I will use this filter when I want just 2 or 3 cups of 8 oz coffee...it does do a good job in that range, with no sediment, which is good.

This is a "cheesy" product in two ways. First, as others have noted, it is simply too small. It is made to fit the Farberware stove-top percolator, and fits it perfectly, but it could have been an inch or so taller. As it is, if you fully fill the filter (alliteration unintentional), you've only half-filled the Farberware coffee basket, essentially meaning you can only make a partial pot of coffee. What's the point of that? The second cheesiness is in the construction. The filter is flimsy and looks like it won't stand anything but the gentlest of treatment. Given that it's a chore to empty it of used coffee grounds, we have a sure-fire recipe for trouble. Dig too hard with that spoon and you're going to tear the mesh. The filter does have a three-year warranty, if you want to fool around with getting a replacement on a five-dollar item. (The low price, by the way, is not an excuse for cheesiness; I would have gladly paid twice this price for a full-size, well-made filter.) I think I might just use cheap paper filters with a hole poked in the center. The cleanup will be easier, I won't lose capacity, and I will be less frustrated than I am with the Perma-Brew filter.

I have the Farberware Yosemite 8 cup stove top percolator Farberware 50124 Classic Yosemite Stainless Steel Percolator and have been using it and this filter for more than a month. Thus far, it's an excellent replacement for messy paper filter discs. Even better, it has done a flawless job of keeping coffee grounds out of the final brew. I noticed at least one review with a complaint about this filter not doing the job and I find that to be truly unbelievable. If you have a typical stove top percolator in the 10 cups or less range (and you know how to use it) then this filter is a no-brainer. I am not using any special grind of coffee nor do I have to run the metal percolator basket under water first. I get identical and flawless results with both coarse and fine bean grinds. Fill the filter with the appropriate amount of ground coffee, drop it into the percolator basket and cover with the basket cover. That's it. It cleans up in a snap, is as pure white as the day it arrived and is well-made for a very reasonable price. BREW TIP: I like a strong brew and have found a CUPS+2 formula works great. I use an ordinary teaspoon from my kitchen flatware. Example: if you fill the percolator with water up to the 6 cup mark then you would add 6+2 heaping teaspoons of ground coffee to the filter. That's 8 teaspoons for the math challenged. Subtract 1 or 2 teaspoons for a less hearty brew. FILLING TIP: The central cylinder on this filter is open at the top and bottom so that it can drop into a variety of percolator baskets. It resides in an already tight space and can make adding ground coffee to the filter a bit awkward. I avoid waste, odd teaspoon angling (and the cute, little counter mound that forms from the grinds that fall through the cylinder hole) with an ordinary marble. Use it to cover the cylinder hole, drop your ground coffee directly over it and remove the marble before you drop the filter into the percolator basket. It's bigger than the hole but small enough that it acts as a perfect dispersion tool for the grounds. A spherical bead or similar object works just as well. Happy brewing!

Purchased this filter along with a Presto 6 cup percolator in 2013. The fit is a tiny bit high but does not affect the performance. Not sure if this will fit all models so I would measure before I would purchase. The one in the photo looks like stainless steel mesh mine is a copper mesh. When I was buying pre-grounded coffee I had to use more coffee and had more grounds even using the paper filters. I now grind my own beans, makes a huge difference and using the Perma-Brew filter. Two small coffee scoops in the grinder fills the filter 1/2 full which is all I need for the perfect pot of Joe. Sometimes I even forget to put the flat lid on and still very little or no grind. With all percolators there is a small science. I find that the larger the grind the more coffee you use which increases more bottom grind which in turn you buy more coffee.

Me comunique con soporte de Amazon y la razón que me dieron es que al parecer este es un producto muy solicitado, y que seguramente en el momento en que hice la compra otros usuarios lo hicieron también, por lo que se agoto el producto. Algo que se entiende. Para que me dieran fecha estimada se tardaron poco mas de dos semanas. Pero cuando lo enviaron si que Prime hace honor a su nombre, el pedido llego muy rápido al cabo de dos días (no fue a zona 1 Día) protegido en una caja cintada; no esperaba ese tipo de protección, pero me pareció muy bien. Realmente entiendo las cuestiones por las que tardaron en enviar el pedido pero no le veo problema, el viaje que hizo el producto fue rápido y llegaron en buenas condiciones, nada de lo que quejarme. Sobre el producto: Como tal aquí no hay mucho que decir, lo mas notorio era el tema del envío, pero aun así hay tela de donde cortar. He probado estos filtros en distintas cafeteras y en todas ha quedado bien, al parecer es universal y se adapta a cualquier cafetera. Te ahorra tener que estar comprando paquetes de filtros de papel y sobre todo ayuda a disminuir el impacto ambiental que esto implica, pues al usar estos filtros re-utilizables solo es cosa de lavar y ya, no genera residuo extra. Ademas, realmente cuando ya las tienes contigo te das cuenta de que son mas grandes a comparación de lo que ves en la publicación del producto, ya a la hora de la hora tienen buena capacidad para el café, un buen tamaño. También son de buen material y están hechas para durar, y lavarlas no es nada complicado; en todo aspecto cumple con su objetivo este filtro de cafetera. Si lo que quieres es hacer café sin gastar demasiado y ahorrarte el tener que cambiar filtro a cada rato, esta es una opción; tienen buen precio (al menos cuando yo los compre estaban bastante baratos), son de calidad y tienen buen tamaño para lo que desees. Son buenos filtros de cafetera.

Great product that replaces paper filters. Works well, just rinse or wash and reuse.
