Is this item supposed to come with a shelf? Received today and no shelf.

It would appear that the shelf is no longer supplied, it states it contains "hooks", and there is no mention of shelf in the description or in the photographs. Having said that I'm sure that you could fit your own shelf with a bit of ingenuity. Mine did come with a shelf,but no hooks, and I can confirm that it's a great little safe which provides a decent level of security for your valuables.

Can anyone just open this with a 9V battery

Certainly not, the nine volt battery terminals are there as an emergency battery back up should the safes internal batteries become discharged it only applies power to the circuit board to allow the owner to key in the pass code allowing the safe to be opened in the normal way. I replace my internal batteries about every nine months to prevent the batteries becoming discharged to the point that I cannot open the safe. Depending on how often you unlock and lock the safe will determine how often the batteries should be replaced.

Nice little security safe which is cash rated for insurance purposes. Easy to use with the extra feature that you can over ride with a 9v battery if the batteries in the safe door go flat.

Good quality, nice thick steel used. Locking looks very high security. Setting up the pass keys was very challenging and took me a long time. Used a video on You Tube to assist in setting it up. Not easy.
