It evaporates quickly. Once evaporated, the mild solvent smell (which isn't bad) is gone. AND unlike Goo-Gone, it will not get rancid over time. Goo Gone leaves a smelly mess. In-Du doesn't. Great stuff. **Q: I stick labels on my winebottles. Some come off easily, but on some bottles it is very hard to scrape the label off. Will this work on stuck labels?** A: I've used Un-Du for years, and usually, something has to be used to help lift the label. When labels are difficult I reach in my pocket and use one of my guitar picks. They type I use had the perfect edge. Or use the scraper that comes on the bottle. **Q: Is it safe on skin to remove adhesives** A: un-du is a Petroleum Distillate which when used can come into contact with the skin. When un-du does touches the skin the area will temporarily remove any skin oils from that area temporarily but once you rub the skin where un-du came into contact with the skin will replace the skin oil that un-du removed. un-du comes out with a controlled ID dropper that releases un-du in drops because you do not need a lot of un-du to safely remove all self sticking adhesives. So un-du will "on contact" with the skin rob from that area's natural skin. I usually rub the area replacing the skin's oil/moisture that un-du temporarily remove the skin area. It gets off all the old glue residue without harming the fabric. I usually use a small, fairly stiff, artist brush dipped in the remover and find a gem area that seems less attached and dab there first and usually you can pry off the gem. Sometimes(most of the time) it leaves the glue on the dress or embroidery, I can keep working the same spot with the brush and usually the glue spot will lift off in one piece. I keep some bowls handy to soak the old gems that still have glue left on them. You can not scrape the glue off with any metal object or it will take the mirror back finish off the gem. Unfortunately your fingernail works best but I try not to keep my fingers in the solution too much. My daughter has a dance school and when we do any sewing alterations we usually have to remove the gem and the glue residue to sew. This product is a lifesaver. It does evaporate quickly and will take the finish off a table so you have to be a little cautious when you are using it. I have never had it harm any fabric so far. It takes a little patience and practice but having a clean surface to reglue on is key to reattaching the gems.
