Air Pump 400

The first one they sent me made a loud bad noise. That night I required a return. In the morning I returned defective unit and get this: the same day I received my new air pump. Thank you that was so cool. I have a four gang and a three gang valves powering five air devises and the pump is turned almost to lowest setting I used a T connector so both outputs of pump lead into one. Everything works and the pump has a very quiet pleasant tone. Best air pump by far I ever had. I have a 36 gallon and a 10 gallon and the 400 is not to big. After a week I realized the volume control nobs have markings ( dots ) that makes them perpendicular to each other.

I previously used Penn-Plax air pumps, but they are difficult to come by. Most recently I've tried Tetra pumps, but of the three I purchased, they ALL had manufacturing defects that only became apparent months later. (the pump head bracket was either cracked or missing entirely) This pump is excellent. Quiet, and powerful with individual outlet adjustment. Why this doesn't show up in a search is beyond me.

I've had multiple air pumps over the years, most of them have been Tetra Whispers. When I heard this one was the quietest available, even quieter than the tetras, I wanted to give them a try. I bought one to put in my kitchen for my betta tank. This thing is SO LOUD. I can hear it over the TV. It rattles and the hum is so incredibly loud. I have it on the lowest setting. It was okay at first, but seriously no more than 2 weeks running and it was just unbearably loud. I've lost track of how many times I've said the word loud in this review. Idk if mine is faulty, but I hate it.

Pump was compact. Not too large. I didn’t hang my pump, I don’t like that if I did that it wouldn’t sit flush against the wall. But I’m sure that’s by design. I have it on a flat surface. The pump itself is very quiet. I only ever notice the sound if I’m actually listening for it. Even then it’s just a slight hum. The water bubbles from my sponge filters make more noise lol. I will say even at the lowest air setting I’m getting more than enough airflow in a 10 gal UNS tank. I opted to get 2 corner sponge filter rather than use the included attachments. I ordered some suction cups to keep the air hose flush with the tank and looking neat. Whoever said this pump was loud obviously got a broken unit.

Product supplied tubing and bubblers which was an expense saver. Also, like the size, quality of the construction and dual controllers for each air line tubing. It does have good power as I have it connected in my 100 gallon tank and it supplies a good stream of bubbles. However, I have very sensitive hearing and even though most reviews say it runs pretty quiet, I can still hear it vibrating and I have it under my fish tank cabinet in my family room. I know air pumps are not completely silent, but my 10 year old Rena 400 which unfortunately finally ran out of power, was extremely quiet. I would have purchased another one, but they stopped manufacturing them. So, I'm a little disappointed about this one because it runs a little more expensive than other air pumps and still is noisy. Update 5/4/18: After running the air pump for awhile it does seem less noisy compared to when I first started using it, so I changed my rating from 3 to 4 stars because the noise level was very important to me. But I have noticed that it does not have that much power to run my two 6" air stones even at full power. Like that it runs quiet, but for the price I'd expect more power. But overall satisfied with the air pump.

It's not silent, but it is quieter than many. Your threshold level of silence is relative. Volume pumped is not excessive and close to the dual outlet whisper (1/3 the price and much louder) that it replaces. Compared to the majority of air pumps made for aquariums since 1960, this air pump is one of the more quiet and certainly most expensive of these vibrator type that I've owned for the volume pumped. The hum produced here is still noticeable, and can be reduced if placed inside a cabinet. If your bubbles are louder than the pump, then you might have a "quiet" pump for your purposes. I have this pump as the air source for many tanks (9 - 2 1/2, 2 - 10, 1- 55), and there are many air outlets, so in my case, the bubbles are louder than the pump. There is no "extra" air for me to use - 14 outlets. Rating: 3-4 Pros: more quiet than many dual outlet each outlet separately controlled has a hole so you can hang from wall long enough power cable comes with tubing and adjustable eheim air stones Youtube review measurement says sound is about 48 db while most others are 70db small size 3 year warranty Cons: very pricey for the volume of air pumped Certainly not silent Not sure about how long this pump will last. This might make a gift for a fish person with just couple of tanks. For about the same price the Hygger is more quiet and pumps much more air.

My favorite aquarium air pump. I’ve used this on everything and multiple tanks. Used one for a year then stored for 2 and it fired right back up. However may be over powered for a single 29gallon tank.

Ok it's just an air pump, and a powerful and relatively quiet one... But other than what I was expecting, I was pleasantly surprised by the performance of the included air diffusers. Yes, I used one as an air diffuser and works better than most and replaced the existing one in my tank when I bought this air pump. Having a planted tank with pressurized CO2, I decided to try the Eheim air diffuser and WOW it is better at diffusing CO2 than any ceramic I've tried to date... I was not expecting that. The pump is great and the air diffusers just made this purchase even better...

I bought this to solve a noise issue with 2 other pumps that I had. This unit has 2 outputs with some control over the output air but is so much quieter! I measured the db level difference. It is significantly quieter than the other units I had

Extremely quiet pump. Most air pumps that put out the volume of air that this does are usually quite loud. This pump has two air connections and each one you can control the flow rate on each, this is a great option. I was also extremely surprised that it came with two air diffusers for the aquarium. They also work extremely well (bonus) . This is what ive come to expect from Eheim, and they have never let me down. They produce some of the best aquatic products in the market and this is no exception. This pump produces way more air volume then the fluval q2 that I'm replacing with this eheim 400 and its quieter too. My aquarium is over 2 ft deep and this has no problem at that depth.
