JNW Direct Pond Water Test Kit for Ponds - 7 in 1 Test Strips [50 Pack]

Needed tool for the pond. Hadn't tested water for a while and needed this kit to understand if the water was the cause of a butterfly koi floater. Nitrates were probably the cause as reflected in the tester panel. Did a large water change and mitigated the issue for now. The only issue I have is that it would be nice to have a what to do pamplet for out of range values. But Since there are different and arguable solutions organic and chemical I understand why they leave that to the user. The boxed normal readings otherwise initiate an action if needed. The pads do not retain their color as expected so it's important to log each value over time.

Bought these to get a good understanding of pH, nitrates, alkalinity, etc for a pond I recently built and am adding goldfish and koi. I have not taken a pond sample to a lab to compare accuracy of what I'm seeing on the strips but I assume they're accurate (or at least in the ballpark). Two seconds in the water and 30 seconds to read the result has really helped me understand what treatment I needed to add to get pH and Total Hardness down a bit.

It is a generally good and a quick test to assess a koi pond's chemical make up except for measuring PH. It always measures it as being low while PH levels are likely to be fine. It caused me to add too much baking soda to raise PH in my pond which can cause koi to die. So dont trust PH reading levels on this test.
