The previous one often got jammed with one or two grains of sand. This one is better in:- more power;- design (propeller/screw sends water which is already cleaned and filtered; therefore, no jamming with sand);- 3-layer filters and easy assembling;Some users seems to give one or two stars, possibly due to:- the propeller/screw is electric/magnetic-driven, which requires initial momentum (rarely you may need to push the propeller/screw by hand after opening the cover) ;- to be placed vertically or horizontally, well under water (desirably 3-4 inches below water surface);- if water is not clean or too much baits/formulas are given, the filter needs to be cleaned often (once every 5-7 days in summer). if water is clean, it keeps on running without cleaning for a few weeks. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works great *by ***S on October 29, 2023* Have to position just right. My turtles have pulled it down a couple times ### ⭐ Buyer beware *by S***D on May 19, 2021* The media could not be loaded. Do not buy this pump. It only lasts a month or two and the company doesn't stand behind the product and won't warranty it out. We had actually upgraded to a regular tank for my daughter which came with a pump and didn't need this one, so I put it away for awhile. Upon needing it again to use her small tank, it doesn't work.
