Michael Jackson ~ Dangerous Review: MJ Out the Box and Dangerous! - DANGEROUS serves as MJ's liberation from old guard producer Quincy Jones and a full embrace of the New Jack sound along with further exploration of intense sexuality. Top heavy with Teddy Riley's beat-driven influence, the urban sound is nicely balanced by Bill Bottrell's rock contributions. Riley starts the album with Jam, an okay dance/club hit with socially-aware lyrics by MJ that seem to get lost in the beat, but with an excellent rap at the bridge by Heavy D. Why You Wanna Trip on Me is a tight guitar-driven hip hop rhythmic explosion written by Teddy Riley that has MJ mystified by media obsession with his every move while children go hungry. Produced by Riley, In the Closet begins with a boring spoken word intro, followed by a spare, industrial rhythm track that ushers in MJ at his most seductive and mysterious--a radio and video favorite. Written by MJ and Teddy Riley, She Drives Me Wild contains an annoying car horn and what seems like an adult answer to Prince's more aggressive sexually-suggestive lyrics of that time. Remember the Time is a mid-tempo R&B song of reminiscence from one lover to another written by MJ, Teddy Riley, and Bill Bottrell. Nice smooth swing beat that received generous airplay. Can't Let Her Get Away is a pleasant Riley/MJ dance collaboration with MJ providing his own rap at the bridge and Riley arranging the rhythms, the very definition of New Jack. Heal the World is the requisite MJ anthem reminding despoilers of Earth that their children and everyone else's children will inherit the mess that parents leave behind. Similar to We Are the World, this song inspired record-setting charitable efforts. Written and composed by MJ to include orchestral arrangements and backing vocals by children, it is beautiful. Black or White is dominated by Slash's guitar with rap lyrics written and spoken by Bill Bottrell. The song is written and composed by MJ and is extremely irritating due to over-exposure on radio and video plus simplistic views of North American race relations. Written and composed by MJ, Who Is It opens with MJ as co-soprano and continues with a synth and bass arrangement produced by Bill Bottrell. This is an excellent song with emotional cries of love, loss, and loneliness. Give in to Me is an amazing song written and composed by MJ and Bill Bottrell. Reminiscent of Dirty Diana's dark mystery, this song is MJ's demand, not request, but outright demand for sexual submission. Slash guides the listener through MJ's story of twisted seduction with ominous guitar riffs. Will You Be There reminds the listener that MJ is not just a performer, but also a writer, composer, arranger, and inspirer through sheer force of talent. This is a gospel-influenced anthem with many moving parts effectively blended by MJ to include an orchestra, a choir, and an array of tried and true studio musicans. This song is also MJ's insistence that he is not a god or a symbol for idolatrous worship, he is a human being and should be treated as such. Keep the Faith also showcases a strong gospel influence. Co-written by MJ and Siedah Garrett, she who also wrote the monumental Man in the Mirror anthem on BAD, Garrett provides strong background vocals with Shanice Wilson. Co-produced by MJ, this song includes an uplifting assist by the Andre Crouch Choir. Excellent, gritty, bottom-level gospel-flavored soul. Gone Too Soon is the rare song on this album neither written nor produced nor arranged by MJ. Sentimental and sad, somewhat bland, it is a song of mourning that will provide a sense of comfort for those left behind. With Dangerous, Riley and Bottrell once more combine their efforts with hard-driving New Jack beats and a spoken word caution by MJ between verses. This is MJ's "yeah, me too" agreement with Bell Biv Devoe's Poison about a bent woman who traps and manipulates and takes money away from the unwary (hopefully not MJ!). DANGEROUS surprised and delighted the New Jack community and provided proof of MJ's ability to keep pace not only with the young bloods of hip hop, but also his peers Prince, Madonna, and dear sister Janet. Review: The hands down best Michael Album since Bad. You HAVE to own this. Period. - I am going to do a thorough review on this album. As I love it so much. So if you don't have time to read it all or want a skimpy review. then look else where. I got this album when I was 4. I have loved Michael since then. I am now 26. This album simply does not let you down. The songs are mind blowing, and this is truly Michael at his best. A breakdown of the songs as follows. Also I got this album as it's the special edition one. Jam: An up beat, thrilling and dance inducing groove. With a message of love and coming together just like all of his songs. This song is really amazing as Michael combines a dance jam, with a positive message inside. A high light of the album for sure. Why you wanna trip on me: A fantastic dance song again, with a very cool beat. Michael really gets down on this one. You really can't help but dance to this song. In the closet: LORD this song. I mean WOW. This song is the real gem of the album to me. Michael was very sexual on this one, the lyrics are totally haunting and the beat is out of this world. He tells a story of love and lust, but something to be kept secret. The video alone is orgasm inducing. This song is the top of the tops. Another real highlight of the album. She drives me wild: Another up beat song in which Michael explains how he's attracted to a woman and needs to get her before the chance passes him by. Remember the time: The classic song that got the most attention outside of In the closet. This song was Michael exploring more technical dance moves in the video, but the beat and the over all message of the song is very romantic and relate-able. This song will certainly make you dance your heart out no matter where you are. Another high light of the album. Heal the world: A tear inducing song. So much of a Michael inspired message here. The title explains it all. But this song will certainly make you think twice about your actions in the world and day to day life. A beautiful song of Michael singing of world peace and harmony. Black or White: Another smash from the album. World wide record breaking song. With the panther dance at the end of the video, Michael shook the world with his sexual dancing and lashing out against the media. But it was well needed at that time. Anyhow, the song is a classic example of how Michael wanted everyone to be one and love each other. This song has a great guitar backing and will make you dance away. Who is it: This song, is haunting. Very haunting. Michael clearly was betrayed by some woman and he sang this song with every inch of his heart. A song that explains heart break and betrayal. Michael really showed his pain in the video for this one. A classic song for sure. Give into me: Sensual and demanding. This song is Michael explaining a desire, but also a search for answers. In one part he says "Don't try to tell me because you know it's a lie". Implying the woman knows she doesn't really feel how she says, but Michael wants her to give in and give him what he wants. Will you be there: The theme from Free Willy. A beautiful strong song. Michael sings it with such passion. It's just beautiful. He simply says here will you be there when I need you. Will you be there for me through all of my wrong doings and success. Another hit from the album. Keep the faith: A very powerful song. Inspirational and very up lifting. Michael really broke out his gospel ways on this one. A perfect song for anytime. Gone too soon: For his dear friend Ryan White who passed of aids at a young age. Another tear inducing song, in which he also performed at the Bill Clinton Inauguration ball. A beautiful song in which Michael paints a clear picture of love and losing a loved one or friend. Dangerous: A sexy dance groove. Mostly spoken word so to speak, but also Michael singing. A very powerful message of Michael singing of his desire for a woman, but knowing she's no good for him. This album is a must have hands down. I hope my review of the songs gave you some insight to what is to come on the album. But buy it and see for yourself.

A man whose creativity and talent was without end
Michael Jackson's album Dangerous lead into what would become the greatest world tour of its time and the song follows his path of improving and changing styles. This album features a hard-rock single and it also is the first time Jackson would insert rapping interludes- I'm not one for rap, but Jackson always made sure they fit into the song. This is one of the greatest selling albums of all time, just barely beating out Bad as Jackson's second biggest selling album. People said in Dangerous that Jackson had become a mechanical entertainer, but I strongly disagree. I find his work in Dangerous just as good as previous albums even though its highlight singles may not be on the level of some of his previous songs. Album Highlights Include: Jam - A very fast paced tune from the King of Pop provides an exciting start to this excellent album, and features a very fun tune and rap interlude. Like other fast-paced songs from Jackson the lyrics are spoken at a machinegun pace and are hard to get if you don't pay attention. The music video featured the other MJ: the King of Ball (Basketball, to be exact) Michael Jordon. In The Closet - A smooth, sexually suggestive song with a crisp beat and lyrics. Some may remember its sexually stimulating music video. Remember The Time - Another crisp, smooth love song from Michael. The music video was set in Ancient Egypt. Heal the World - The song written to launch Jackson's Heal the World charity which continues to operate `til this day. It is in the style of his previous "change the world" song Man in the Mirror. Black Or White - The song's most infamous single is exciting and expresses strongly the desire for race equality. This unedited version includes an introduction similar to that of the Black Or White video with Macaulay Culkin. With guitar solos provided by the infamous Slash the song is incredible. Give In To Me - What I believe to be Michael Jackson's most underrated song this Rock & Roll piece (Once more featuring guitarist Slash) worth looking into by not just fans of Michael Jackson or pop, but people who enjoy real Rock music. For me, this song proved that Michael Jackson could succeed in whichever genre he wished to perform- in fact, this song makes me hope that we'll see rock songs in his unreleased archive. Will You Be There - A sweet, moving song that is a must have. Gone Too Soon - A loving tribute to those who had to leave this Earth that if it doesn't hit any emotions I'd have to say you've never lost someone. It was truly fitting for it to have been sung at the late King's funeral. Dangerous - Now the song is good but not as good as many of the others. Also, having grown up on his stage performance version of the song I'd have to say I prefer the lyric arrangements in the stage-performance version over the actual song. Still, a good piece nonetheless. Going to some of the critical complaints of Dangerous and later Invincible were the length of these albums. A ridiculous thing, because when I spend my money on a CD I'm happy to know that Jackson always made sure you got plenty of bang for your buck. Dangerous contains fourteen tracks, and sure, the arrangement and transition between pieces may be a tad off, but at the same time -considering Jackson so rarely released albums- I'm relieved that he always made sure to respect the buyer by making sure their dollar would buy more than most other CDs which average 8-12 tracks. Dangerous is not as diverse an album as some of his other works (Thriller, Bad, Invincible), but it defiantly contains the King's spark of creativity in every second of its running time. Also: Make sure to check out Michael Jackson's DVD concert 'Michael Jackson - Live in Bucharest: The Dangerous Tour'. It will blow you away!

Wonderful rerelease!
Please excuse me, I was thinking I had already written this. ;) Anyway, I jumped at the chance to get this sooner vinyl edition; intriguingly, it has a sticker on it labelling it as a "Walmart exclusive"! Lol! But anyway, the sound and performance are top notch, and really do Michael's voice justice! It's also great after all these years to see an even *bigger* reproduction of its famous cover so I can pick out even more details than originally about with its CD release. Highly recommended to all of Michael's fans!

~With music like this, he'll never die.~
Now, now, I am perhaps in that itsy bitsy teeny weeny part of the population who is suspect that Michael Jackson is really not deceased, cause aside from how all the inconsistencies that came to light about how his death happened, Janet gave 2 different accounts as to where she was when she heard the news: she said both Atlanta AND New York. Now that is Dangerous. Now back to the show. The cover of the album tells it all: Michael was well aware of the things too many had to say without ever knowing him, only his music. Or only ever enjoying his music. When he set out to make Thriller the biggest selling album of all time, he did just that, so he was NEVER going to reach that peak again because he raised the bar so high, it vanished. Dangerous starts off very, very strong and tapers off slowly but surely before shooting lights out with the title track. Even if he was ultimately, completely satisfied with it, his audience could not wholeheartedly feel the same way simply because of Thriller. It may not be correct to categorize any song he made as weak if it is just not a particular favorite that you or I like or love to hear; his lyrics were always very personal and his aim was nonetheless total perfection. Unfortunately, he could not give us another Motown 25; MTV could never again attempt to boycott his videos as that alone made the album get salivated for even more once Beat It, Billie Jean and Thriller hit the airwaves; and most of us believe Michael could never look as good as he did on the Thriller cover. Every person will receive some of ridicule or teasing at some point in their life, and even in childhood those memories are able to affect us as adults, having an unanticipated cause & effect. Such actions are capable of causing an identity crisis, and in considering Michael, he spoke of the pain caused by family, especially his father, and then having the added weight of having melanin destroyed, I simply cannot imagine THAT particular pain. I got teased openly in front of the ladies, "Do you wear mascara?" or my favorite, "He got eyes like Tweety Bird." I had no comeback at that time, but every single, and I mean EV-VER-RY SINGLE girl that called me cute, caught The Vapors years later. Tweety Bird grew into those eyes, and my rejection put them in a cage, left them saying as they walked away, "Sufferin' succotash!" Michael Jordan had that same effect on the public when his first Jordans in black & red were banned from the league, and the ensuing commercial that followed caused such a frenzy that, along with his play, he is still enjoying the fruits of his hard work. No amount of marketing could ever be or could ever have been creative enough to produce the outcomes both gentlemen lived with and live through. For Michael Jackson, the sad irony is that despite his clear assertions that Sony did not have his best interest in the end, it would be both Sony & his family that would benefit from his 'death.' Alive or not, Dangerous, along with all his other music as a solo artist & with his brothers, allows us to continuously enjoy that which has become The Soundtrack for so many moments in our lives. Update: 4/24/2014~~I played Dangerous from start to finish while in my Spyder and it made me realize something: if you do not have the right type of system, not necessarily an expensive one, but just the right one to crisply bring out just how AWESOME the arrangement is on a lot of music, you will miss out on too much. My system is factory, a Rockford Folsgate, with 650w of pure power. And when going to have my alarm programmed with additional features, I PUMPED UP THE MUSIC!, and Dangerous suddenly came to life in a way that I failed to appreciate before. When older music that has been digitally remastered, always get those tweaks when you can because sounds that have always been there come through even more, adding another dimension to the rhythm. Not that Dangerous is not already benefiting from advances in music, but again, without the right system, the genius of Michael Jackson and many others will go unappreciated. UDp2: 1/5/2015~~~Will You Be There.....man, I am really starting to HEAR Michael now. Dude has talent in spades, no one before and definitely not since have come remotely close to giving up the complete package. Maybe next year will be his time. ~K.I.S.S~

"Dangerous".....his best since "Off the Wall"
"Dangerous" came out at a time when Michael's fame was so in your face you just couldn't escape it. And then, the video for "Black and White" debuts with the infamous temper tantrum and crotch grabbing at the end that really did me in. (But still, I found myself oddly entranced at the boldness of that section of the video. I still find the crotch grabbing really unnecessary. Yet, the temper tantrum....well, remained intriguing). I never liked "Black & White" as a song very much and I still don't. And the face morphing was done more effectively by Diana Ross ironically in her promo video for "Heavy Weather" from "The Force Behind the Power", her worldwide smash that came out about the same time. The execution of the morphing is not as seamless but infinitely more moving. I had purchased the very special pop-up package that was quite elaborate. At a distance, the artwork looked like Michael wanted us to believe he was some super-human, god-like even. It was around this time that the press release had gone out to MTV, VH1, BET and all other music outlets dictating that they proclaim him "The King of Pop". It was all a bit too much. That said, the Teddy Riley-produced tracks on "Dangerous" help to make it edgy and exciting. But I wasn't ready to concede this point in 1991. The chorus to "Jam" ....."it ain't too much, it ain't too much, it ain't too much for me" caused me to say to myself, "no Michael, it ain't too much, it's just a bit much for me". The riffs felt like recycled James Brown-licks, which were signature for Michael, hot, but, heard on many of his best hits previously. Though I found ways of escaping "Dangerous", there would be moments like being in a cab in Rio de Janeiro and hearing the driver playing the CD. I would have to say to myself that it sounds better than I wanted to give it credit. And in a sense, the music from "Dangerous" would haunt me for years to come. Oprah's praise of "Who Is It?" left me feeling a little out of the loop. On the other side, my friends and I would chuckle at the title of "In the Closet" like if indeed we were in the know. The romantic entanglement between Michael and Naomi Campbell was not believable either. But the music kept coming back to haunt me. The 2nd biggest legitimate hit off the album, "Remember the Time" also reminded me of trying to recapture the light airy-ness of "Rock With You". I still couldn't get the album out of my head though. So finally, as the year's ensued.....his mega-stardom was dimmed considerably, it felt safe to go back and listen to "Dangerous". (And never forget the super cool pop-up promo package that I have to look at). Now, in his sad transition. I unfortunately, get to listen even more intently. And in that listening, I find that "Dangerous" may be as strong as "Off the Wall". "Thriller" was great but far too calculated for my epicurean taste. I am completely enamored with the Teddy Riley-produced tracks including "Jam", "Why You Want to Trip on Me", "Can't Let Her Get Away" ....love that song right now, love it and the title track. As previously mentioned, "Dangerous" really should be weighed as 2 albums. The Riley tracks ARE the "dangerous" tracks in their brooding, hot rhythms. Vocally, it has always been fascinating how Michael takes the funky adlibs of James Brown and blends in Diana Ross cooing to come up with his own sound. The other tracks are good, some giving the album that "global/world music" feel in "Heal the World" and "Will You Be There". It is that dichotomy that stops "Dangerous" from being superb. (By the way, the "Dangerous" album is currently not available for purchase as an Mp3 on iTunes or Amazon???). But if "Dangerous" were a EP featuring only said tracks it would be a 5-star winner in my opinion. It is sad for me personally that it took his passing for me to come full circle and acknowledge that he is/was one of the greatest artists of all time. I have been a fan since Diana Ross "presented" The Jackson 5. I have always loved his melodic chord changes blended with his funkiness. If he had not become so obsessed with being the greatest, he would not have needed to try so hard because he was already there.

Michael Jackson ... DANGEROUS (1991)
In 1991, Michael gave us his ninth album entitled, DANGEROUS. Once again, Michael proves to us that he truly is the King of Pop. Just about every song on this album is amazing. "JAM" (performed by Michael Jackson & Heavy D) The fifth single from the album. At first, I wasn't too keen with this song, but about ... five years ago, I listened to the song again and it had grown on me. Definitely a great song. "WHY YOU WANNA TRIP ON ME" Great song. "IN THE CLOSET" (performed by Michael Jackson & Princess Stèphanie of Monaco) The third single from the album. Damn! Michael really wanted a sexual song and he got it. This is one sexy song. In the song's music video, (sexy) model, Naomi Campbell, appears as Michael's lady friend, where she actually re-recorded Princess Stèphanie of Monaco's vocals. "SHE DRIVES ME WILD" Great song. "REMEMBER THE TIME" The second single from the album. Michael continues to reel out the awesome dance tracks. The song's music video is another one of Michael's greatest and one of his most elaborate. Eddie Murphy appears in the video as Pharroh Ramses, as the video takes place in Egypt. Iman, David Bowie's now-wife, appears in the video as the Pharro's queen, who, is "Bored. I want to be entertained. Can my Pharroh find some way to entertain his Queen?" After two failed entertainers, a mysterious man approaches, throws onto the floor, three handfuls of gravel, stands on the gravel, and mysteriously disappears, leaving his black cloak. Suddenly the gravely and clock turn into gold, which then morphs into Michael, where the song finally begins, with Michael flirting with Egypt's Queen. "CAN'T LET HER GET AWAY" Great song. "HEAL THE WORLD" The sixth single from the album. What a great ballad with an extremely positive and true message. "BLACK OR WHITE" The first single from the album. What a great song. The message being sent out is one of the greatest messages ever. The video was directed by John Landis, who is famous for directing such movies as "Kentucky Fried Movie", "Schlock", "Blues Brothers", "Trading Places", "An American Werewolf In London", as well as Michael Jackson's video for "Thriller". "WHO IS IT" The fourth single from the album. Great song. "GIVE IN TO ME" The seventh single from the album, though, released in the UK & New Zealand only. Once again, Michael decided to rock out. This song is way too awesome, and is my favorite from the album. "WILL YOU BE THERE" The eighth single from the album. Not only was this song the album's eighth single, but it was also the theme song for the 1993 Drama / Family film, "Free Willy". I never cared for this song. "KEEP THE FAITH" Great song. "GONE TOO SOON" The ninth single from the album. Great tune. "DANGEROUS" The album's title track. Great song.

Where to Begin
I don't know, where do you start to talk about any record by Michael Jackson? I guess, I'll write the truth. This is the record that for me spelt out Michael's contribution to the early 90's. It was the first solo album he produced without the input of the legendary Quincy Jones. And, he wrote just about all the songs on it. While he perpetuated his distinctive musical style as cemented with Thriller and Off the Wall, he also updated it and expanded it to encompass other elements of popular interest in 1991. And of course, the "novelization" in his art carries over from his previous records unmistakably. I can't recall which was the first single I heard on the radio from this album, but I'm pretty sure it was "Black Or White." When I first heard that one, I remember thinking, "Yes! Another Michael Jackson record!!" And, that was the first of seven songs I heard on the air before I got my first copy of the record. Seven songs! How many others can do that in the US, I ask you? When I heard the album from beginning to end, I was blown away not only by how many hits it generated. I was also dumbfounded by how the original album cuts sounded. The long intros to "In the Closet," "Who Is It," "Heal the World," "Will You Be There" and "Black Or White" were fantastic. Especially knowing they were Michael's inventions. He was as creative and ingenious as any singer/songwriter/performer could get, without having to also be a killer instrumentalist like Billy Joel, Eric Clapton, Steve Clark, Stevie Wonder or Eddie Van Halen (the legend of "Beat It"). Just a drag that you can't also dance on vinyl, cassette or CD. Michael's music makes you want to dance, and of course, nobody could do it like MJ himself.

Absoluter Hammer!!!!
Why You Wanna Trip On Me: Schlicht und ergreifend: Der absolute Hammer, einer meiner absoluten Lieblingssongs. In The Closet: Rawr, sexy ;) Richtig heiße Nummer, Ohrwurm! She Drives Me Wild: Heiß, aber mich stört, dass Michael in diesem Track so schreit. Sexy Rocknummer. Will You Be There: Schön. Viel mehr kann man dazu nicht sagen. Vor allem das Ende: Toll. Keep The Faith: Ein weiterer Höhepunkt des Albums.

Will You Be There est la chanson du film Sauvez Willy.
