Ronlap Gate Caster Wheels for Wooden Gate Spring Loaded, 220 Lbs, 4 Inches

Two wheels work fine for heavy gate.

I use 2 of these, one on each side of a 8 foot gate I built for my mower shed. That big of a gate is just heavy, and the little wheels not only keep it level and stress off the hinges, but makes it easier to open and close.

I have a 14 ft gate in two 7 ft sections, all redwood, for my motorhome pad. After 35 years both sides are sagging about an inch. I installed this 4" gate wheel on the main panel (left side). I used a shovel to raise the panel back to level, then marked the mounting bracket holes so that the wheel was in solid contact with the concrete pad. The 5/16" bolts just looked too small for the weight of the gate panel. I drilled the holes on the metal plate on the bracket to 1/2" (just clamp it in a vise and it drills easy). Then I used 3/8" bolts x 4 1/2". While the wheel supports the sag for now, it will still eventually sag another 1" over time because of spring compression in the wheel. If it lasts another 35 years I will upgrade another star--probably remotely as I am 77 years old.

I had to redo my side yard gate, and this gate wheel made a big difference. It prevents sagging over time and helps the gate swing much more smoothly. Installation was straightforward, and the spring-loaded design handles uneven ground well. Definitely a smart upgrade for any heavy or frequently used gate.

First, no installation instructions were provided. Second, product pictures show the bolt going from the caster into and through the gate, then finally screwing the nut. I had injury concerns with that if somebody walks by and hits their toe or leg or head against the bolt that is sticking out of the gate. As you can see in the photos, I reversed it: having the nut face the caster instead. Now, don't make the mistake I did: I bolted the caster too high up when I did not account for the compression of the spring. I had to move the three holes down a notch in order for the heavy gate to be up high enough. If I had to do this again, I would have lowered the caster by 2 bolt holes to get generous enough of a clearance off the ground. Lesson learned. Also, predrill the holes before you screw the bolt through, or you will risk cracking the wood like I did (I was too lazy with 2 holes). Opening/closing the gate is quite smooth now.

I’m glad I found these gate casters because there was a lot of pressure on my gates and they started to sag a bit. After having installed these beautiful sturdy casters I no longer have to worry about that little sagging problem. I know they said it’s for wood and iron gates as you can see my gates are PVC and they fit very nicely. I just had to buy new 6” bolt, nuts and larger washers to accommodate my PVC gates. Easy to install and the price is amazing!

Great purchase. Used one to support a sagging gate … works well, rolls well, and sufficient strong as the gate itself is quite heavy. Will now use the second wheel for the other gate. Recommended.
