Whoever decided to put the port on the BOTTOM of the device didn't think about how impractical the placement would be. I lucked out with the 90 degree micro input being the correct direction for me to conveniently plug the other end into the USB port on the base of my lamp. I read in bed and the lamp is to my right. This plugs into my Kindle with the cord going in that direction (to the right as you are looking at the Kindle's screen). It would still work going the other direction, but I would have needed extra length to loop it around the back. Either way, it is better than a standard cable that sticks straight out the bottom- making it impossible to place the Kindle in a lap log or other type of holder.
