It never falls into the can, when I put garbage in it, no matter how heavy the items. When the can gets full, and I remove the bag, there is still enough room left to add all the trash from several other small trash cans in other rooms. I chose this can, because it fits under my commercial stainless steel sink with plenty of room left over for the top to flip up. This can came fully-assembled and packed very well.
