Jim Trelease's Read-aloud Handbook: Eighth Edition

I am very glad that I found that book. I was looking for some tips for the book club with children. I found really good information in this book.

Everyone working in education or with children should read this book! With the national reading levels in schools so dismal, this book sheds light on why and what can be done by parents to help. The solution is simple…read daily with your child. The book is founded on literally hundreds of studies, explains historically how we got where we are in the literacy mess the US and other countries are in, and how to affect change. The book is a fast read, sensible, and has about a third of the book with read a loud suggestions arranged by age with a brief synopsis of the content as well as other tips. The author even gives sound educationally based suggestions on how to make read a loud with children meaningful. I purchased this book and the Mem Fox book on the magic of reading with your child at the same time. Both are great but if you buy only one go with the Trelease book. I’ve purchased 6 copies as gifts within a week of reading this one. If you are a teacher completing national board certification, this book will save a lot of time looking for resources, the bibliographical information is fantastic.

I loved this book, it was just great to read. It has helped me fall back in love with reading as well as reaffirming how important it is to read to my daughter. Although it's very "American" with regards to the stats & examples it's still very accessible & lots of the books recommended in the vault can still be ordered in or from the UK. Would highly recommend.

I wish they gave this book to every parent leaving the hospital. So much interesting data in this book! Hands down best "parenting" book I have ever read. Hopefully more people will read this book and give their children a book instead of a dang electronic device!

Good communication
