Made in the USA and highly rated by professionals. ## Description Galkyd thins oil colors and increases transparency and gloss. When used in greater proportions with oil color, it will level brushstrokes, creating an enamel-like surface. It is Gamblin s fastest-drying painting medium. Thin layers will be touch-dry in approximately 24 hours. Review: Drys fast , keep the lid on the bottle and you'll be fine - I like this stuff. It does tack up quickly, so I just put like a teaspoon more or less on the pallet or in a small lid or something? and mix into the paint I'm using at the moment to hasten the drying time of that particular color ...if you need to layer a color over another as a sort of glaze, that helps increase transparency. It doesn't have an odor as such, it's not fumy or anything like that. I used to use Liquin for the same reasons, but I think this is less 'gummy' or 'cloudy'? I'm not sure how to describe the differences, but this is working for my purposes now. I would say, don't leave the lid off the bottle or pour out more than you need for a session, or it will just be wasted. I have not mixed large amounts of paint with this, just canvases between 9x12,-24x36, sizes, and not impastos, I do thin layers to medium thick swatches for the most part, pretty standard average thickness pictures. I think this is more economical than some others, works for me, doesn't change the color of the paint . Review: Product Never Arrived - I'm sure the product itself is great, but it never arrived. I've tried contacting the seller, but was advised to check with my neighbours and the post office - it wasn't there. Disappointing. ## Features - GB01004 - 729911010044 - Brand New Item / Unopened Product - Gamblin ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B00IILJ112 | | Age Range Description | Adult | | Best Sellers Rank | #17,729 in Office Products ( See Top 100 in Office Products ) #510 in Art Paints | | Brand | Gamblin | | Brand Name | Gamblin | | Color | Saddle Brown | | Color Code | #FFA500 | | Colour | Saddle Brown | | Container Type | Bottle | | Country of Origin | USA | | Coverage | medium | | Customer Reviews | 4.7 out of 5 stars 355 Reviews | | Dry Time In Hours | 24 | | Finish Type | Gloss | | Finish type | Gloss | | Full Cure Time | 0.5 Hours | | Included Components | Brush | | Indoor Outdoor Usage | Indoor | | Is Waterproof | False | | Item Form | Liquid | | Item Type Name | Gamblin Galkyd Painting Medium 4 oz Bottle | | Item Volume | 4 Fluid Ounces | | Item Weight | 0.28 Pounds | | Item volume | 4 Fluid Ounces | | Manufacturer | GAMBLIN ARTISTS COLORS CO | | Model Name | Galkyd | | Model Number | 01004 | | Paint Type | Oil | | Part Number | 01004 | | Size | 4.2 Fl Oz (Pack of 1) | | Special Features | Fast-Drying | | Special features | Fast-Drying | | Specific Uses For Product | Painting-related activities | | Surface Recommendation | Canvas, Wood | | UPC | 729911010044 | | Unit Count | 4.2 Fluid Ounces | | Water Resistance Level | Not Water Resistant | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Gamblin - **Colour:** Saddle Brown - **Finish type:** Gloss - **Item volume:** 4 Fluid Ounces - **Size:** 4.2 Fl Oz (Pack of 1) ## Images ![GALKYD MED 4.2 OZ - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61l8QFCJHKL.jpg) ## Questions & Answers **Q: Do you have an oil thinner with some turpentine in it** A: linseed oil with Gamblin thinners are excellent. **Q: Can this be used with water based oil paint like Alkyds?** A: It’s for use with oil-based paints. **Q: Would I use Galkyd for water-based oil paints?** A: Water mixable oil paint is not "water based". These are oil paints, ie, oil based paint that are formulated to be mixable with water but they are not water based. In my experience water mixable oil based paints can used with any type of oil medium. **Q: Will this work with acrylic paint as well?** A: No, it wouldn’t mix. There are plenty of acrylic mediums out there or try flow release. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Drys fast , keep the lid on the bottle and you'll be fine *by S***A on 8 November 2025* I like this stuff.
