desertcart.com: The Catholic Study Bible: 9780190267230: Senior, Donald, Collins, John, Getty, Mary Ann: Books Review: My favorite paperback study bible - I’m impressed with this study bible and I definitely love the translation (NAB) and that’s coming from a KJV as first choice bible reading student, as soon as I received the study bible I wasted no time in reading it, I started with James, Galatians, 1st &2nd Thessalonians and completed these 4 books in less than a week, started with the Gospel of Mark today and so far I’m enjoying everything about this bible translation, I liked it so much I ended up buying The Little Rock Catholic bible used on eBay same translation, the reading guide is something new to me I’ve never seen this in other study bibles and I own 40 plus bibles, the font size of the text is good, however the study notes below the biblical text is small so if you have bad eyesight might want to consider something else. Instead of going back and forth from biblical text to reading guide I’ll read the whole reading guide for that particular book first then read the actual book introduction to the book and the text, cross references are good not overpowering like other bibles. The paper is thin so I recommend using the Crayola Twistables it’s not waxy they’re color pencil/crayons that’s the best way to describe it, forget normal highlighters it will ruin the pages Micron pens kind of work but I stick with the color crayons most of the time. This study bible has a lot of useful information and is well put together, I’m a former Catholic I decided to leave the church yrs ago and joined a nondenominational bible believing church but still read Catholic edition bibles and this is a great tool to add to anyones biblical library, the only thing I disagree with is the reading guide here states Daniel, like Noah and Job(with whom he is mentioned in Ezekiel 14:14, may have never existed in other words later in the text it says Daniel in lions den is a fairytale like Daniel’s 3 companions that were thrown into the fiery furnace, they claim could have been a parable like the ones Jesus used in the Gospels, personally I believe what the Bible says 100 percent and I’m able to discern when something is a figure of speech and something is literal and I believe this was a supernatural event that God permitted to prove a point, otherwise people who question the Bible will question the parting of the Red Sea, the donkey that spoke to Balaam in Numbers 22:28 Joshua 10:12 when the sun stood still to finish the battle etc etc casting doubts like this is like serpent in the garden Yea, Hath God said Genesis 3:1 2 Timothy 3:16-17 God has no reason to lie, I know these were not parables like the ones Jesus used in the gospels, other than that I am comfortable reading through this bible without doubting God’s Word at all, I wouldn’t recommend this bible to a new believer but for someone who has study enough scripture to know when someone is trying to convince the reader that certain events never took place won’t affect the individual. All in all this bible is 10/10 it’s pricey for a softcover but well worth the money. Hope this review helps God bless ✝️🙏🏽❤️ Review: Best Catholic study Bible I’ve found - This is the best Catholic study bible I’ve ever seen. Phenomenal catholic study Bible!
I was hesitant to get a paper back, but it is more than worth the price. This addition reads so smoothly and the print is comfortable on the eyes. At a proper distance, I won’t even need my readers to quickly review a verse. The study aids are phenomenal and very detailed. A must have study Bible in my opinion for any serious catholic.

Excellent resource, but no protective sleeve
Studying the epistles of Paul, I have been using the NABRE on Bible Gateway together with several other versions (NASB2020, NRSVue, KJV, and NIV), all fine translations, but have found NABRE, both in its translation and especially with its notes and commentary, to be the most helpful. Even though I could continue using NABRE for free on Bible Gateway, I have been so impressed that I bought the book for my library. I am not Catholic (I am a lifelong active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), but clarity is clarity, and excellent scholarship is excellent scholarship. And this is faithful scholarship, written with pastoral care. Only one complaint: the product description says this book comes in a protective sleeve, but mine came shrink-wrapped with no sleeve. Given the weight and thickness of the book, and the thinness of the paper (necessary to fit so much content between the covers), it would be very easy to damage the spine or the pages. A protective sleeve would have been helpful.

Excellent but...
This third edition thumb-indexed Catholic Study Bible NABRE with the entirely revised Old Testament translation with abundant notes, together with updated Reading Guides of almost 600 pages, the lectionary, a glossary, a short concordance, and newly drawn maps and all is an unsurpassable and valuable resource book for both Cathlics and non-Catholics alike. I'm quite satisfied with the tome of a book of more than 2,600 pages in total except for the following(that's why I've taken off one star): 1. Binding is not sewn, but only glued together, for a huge volume of 2,600 or more pages, even though a piece of cloth is used for the inside edges of both the front and the back covers for reinforcement; the inside edge of the front page has already become ready to peel off. Well, well, well... 2. Printing is good enough but the font size is quite small, particulary in Reading Guides with two-colume layout and, therefore, very trying for an old person like me. 3. Asterisks and superior letters used in the text for notes and cross-references, respectively, are too light or thin for the eye; superior letters are worse and often too light to recognize the letters at once (much worse than in the first edition of this Study Bible). 4. This is rather inevitable but the tome is too heavy to carry, hold in both hands when reading. If you open it on your lap, it become a little far from your eyes and then the fonts are too small for reading comfortably. Eye-glasses are not always a great help here, unfortunately. Well, there may be no way out here but it IS very uncomfortable just the same! All in all, this is a very good book to keep close to yourself and make use of daily but I'd really like the publisher, Oxford, to do something substantial to improve on the items above. I may have to add here that the book reached me in Japan much earlier than originally announced and I greatly appreciate Amazon Com's efficient service. Thanks!

500+ pages of reading guides/introductions to the books in OT and NT, along with the NABRE translation and its excellent footnotes. The pages are thin in the paperback edition - but that is understandable given the total number of pages! Print is legible and clear though.

The seller has kept this book- Bible - in pristine, brand new condition. I was very blessed to get the paperback so cheap as an old copy which was in new condition. It was delivered a day before and beautifully bubble wrapped, so it could not be damaged. I have already delved into reading the Book of Wisdom which is giving some good advice to single men and women on how 'fab' they are just like their married counterparts. Can't wait to read the whole book. I am pleased with this purchase. Thanks!
