Small enough for a one-serving one-pot meal, like a quick egg drop soup, bowl of oatmeal, ramen, rice, what have you. Thick, flat bottoms with nicely fitting lids, means I can cook a range of things without burning. I could even braise a couple of chicken thighs. or even make a little bit of pop corn. However, once done cooking, the pan cools down quickly enough that you can just wrap a towel around it and eat right out of the pan, as it handles like a nice little bowl. The sides are cool enough to handle, but the thick bottom retains more heat, keeping the food warm. So, less clean up. Cooking for one is difficult at best. These little pots just make life easier. so, If, like me, you eat only small amounts of food, and want a very functional little set of pots, I highly recommend them. Are these the same size as the ones sold without lids?** A: I do own both styles, the lidless ramekins and the lidded cocottes, if that is what you mean. Both are 1/2 qt, and the same height of approx 2 1/4" but the cocotte has a slightly larger diameter of about 5" whereas the ramekin has a diameter of about 4 3/4" (these diameters do not include the handles). The biggest difference, other than the lid of course, is that the cocotte has a thinner wall and weighs less and has a thinner, slightly fluted lip (to provide a tighter seal with the lid I'm thinking) whereas the ramekin's walls are completely straight and thick (the ramekin is noticeably heavier). I don't know their exact weights, but I do know the shipping weights are different (2 lbs for the cocottes and 3 lbs for the ramekins). I haven't tried either one so I don't know the benefits/differences of one vs the other.
