They come in different sizes, I would get at least an 18" for 1/4" cable. **Q: Does this cable cutter have a reamer to open and clean up brake cables once cut?** A: You won't need a reamer with this cutter. Best on the market, it cuts real neat and sharp. Just make sure you never use it for anything else and it will last you for years. **Q: Can you cut hydraulic brake hose with them.** A: It should cut it but you shouldn’t use it for that. For hydraulic hose you need a plastic clamp and sharp blade **Q: will this be able to cut 7x19 steel rope cables at 2mm?** A: I've never tried it, but I don't see why not. I think a lot of cycling cables are 1x7, 1x19, 1x31 (and occasionally, though I don't remember ever running into it 7x19) @ <1.6mm (I think), also, compression-less housings have about 20 strands, and the cutters goes though all of them like butter. 2mm isn't that much bigger, so even though it's rope (instead of cable), it shouldn't be too much of a stretch.
