Let it cool down and started it up and noticed one of the fans wasn't spinning. Started looking online and came across this fan. Since my xbox is WAY out of warranty I decided to give it a shot at replacing the fan myself. Found a couple good guides online and ordered not only the fan but also a $7 tool kit. That $7 was well spent! I highly recommend getting the kit. Being a Prime member I received the fan and tool kit within two days and disconnected all the misc wires from my 360. Following the online instructions to pull the xbox apart was amazingly easy. There was a TON of lint/dog hair still in the case even though I regularly can air all the vents. Replacing the fan is super simple and putting the unit back together was a snap. I was really amazed how quick the entire process was. I moved it back to the tv and hooked everything up, pushed the power button and..... NOTHING. WTF? I was terrified I had fried something. Before losing it I followed the power cord and it had come loose from where it plugs into the brick! Everything re-plugged and hit the power button and SWEET!. Nice green glow from back of the unit and running fine. It has been three days so far and everything is working fine. Three days might not be long you are thinking but that is a Friday, Saturday and Sunday of my son playing GTA5, COD Ghosts, BF4 and downloading Saints Row 3 (for free). He stress tested it VERY well. My less than professional opinion on the fan is as follows: Fan noise - My fan was apparently dying, but even at its prime, this new fan is much quieter. Air flow - Flows a lot more air than old unit with one dead fan :) It does seem to push more air out the back than I remember. Part may be also to opening the case and pulling lint out. Heat - After my son running the 360 for a good 5 plus hours the side of the case was barely warm. It used to be hot to the touch. Installation. - Can you change a light bulb? Can you follow instructions? If yes then you can install this fan. Please note, the fan has NO instructions. Go online to a site like llama.com and follow their 360 disassembly guide. Also i HIGHLY reccommed getting the $7 xbox tool kit. Money well spent. Overall this was a great buy and hope to get another year out of the 360 before I upgrade to a One. Jeff Review: Works exactly as advertised (if you read the fine print!) - I have an older 360, one of the first to feature the HDMI output slot. It got the rrod once (but admittedly, that was probably my fault trying to use an improper power supply in a vehicle). I just put this fan into the unit. Although the fan itself comes with no instructions, a couple of quick searches on YouTube will find you all of the guidance you need to remove the case and remove the old fan. Once the old unit is out, reverse your steps with the new one and you will be golden. Don't let the title of "Whisper" and the slogan of "silent lighted fan for the Xbox 360 and Xbox 360 Elite" fool you: this sucker is only marginally quieter than the OEM. However, if you look on the back, the box tells you that this unit promises a 7% reduction in noise and a 58% increase in air flow. While I cannot quantitatively confirm this, the fan feels like it is pushing out a lot more air than the OEM and sounds slightly quieter. I personally don't have a problem with the noise; for me it is an excuse to pump up the game volume. The primary issue for me is increasing the lifespan of my Xbox 360 so I do not need to put out for a new console, and a fan that moves this much more air is worth that to me (even if the advertising is a bit misleading). Changing the fans will void your warranty. Getting to the fans is a bit of a pain in the butt, but I was able to complete the entire project of replacing the fans in less than an hour, including the time it took to search youtube for a xbox dissambly video and getting together my tools. These fans are nice. They slid right in, and installed perfectly. In my case, I had to use an included power adapter to connect the fans. These are definitely quieter than the original fans, even before they started making horrible noises. They seem to move a decent amount of air, though I can't tell if its more or less than the original fans. They also emit a nice green glow from the back of the console.
