Perfect for classrooms! โAn alphabet book with attitude.โ โ Booklist Itโs chaos! Itโs pandemonium! And itโs definitely not as easy as A-B-C! Filled with visually humorous details, Bob Kolarโs colorful illustrations are the perfect foil for Alethea Kontisโs snappy story about the comic confusion that comes when the letters of the alphabet, like a class of unruly children, step out of order and show that each one has a mind of its own. Review: Super cute! - This book is such a delightful combination of fun and silliness while also being a fantastic learning tool! The story is engaging and full of charm, making it a joy for kids and adults alike. The illustrations are vibrant and wonderfully detailed, capturing your little oneโs attention right away. The reading level is perfectโsimple enough for young readers to read on their own, yet still enjoyable for parents to read along with them. Itโs a cute little story with a great balance of humor and learning, making it a must-have for any childโs library. Highly recommend this for storytime or independent reading! Review: Best alphabet book ever! - We read this one over and over. Itโs so cute that I donโt mind! Most alphabet books are boring, but this one is fun. My son enjoys the silly aspects and jokes. I like reading the dialogue between characters.

Fun to read. Even for adults.
I bought this for my daughter's 3rd birthday and she loves it! She loves the character's (the alphabet) personality and loves the colors and craziness. Her favorite "character" is V during his attempt to go twice, because even though it's never said, she knows that V is for vampire. She asks for it every night and is beginning to recognize the letters on sight.

For those who know the alphabet already -- very funny!
I gave this to a 6-year-old who apparently can say the alphabet backwards (I didn't know that when I gave her the book). If that were all it was about, it wouldn't be half as entertaining! It starts with the premise that Z (is for Zebra) wants to go first in the alphabet because it is tired of being last, and so the alphabet proceeds backwards as far as W (is for Whale). Then everything goes crazy, and all the letters want to get into the act out-of-order. So it gets a little chaotic, but a list of the real alphabet is always at the bottom of the pages to keep it clear. The illustrations take at least 3 readings of the book to take everything in, they are so clever. And every single stroke in the illustrations makes sense -- and made me chuckle as I read. Some took the second or third reading before I picked up on the meaning, so it is one of those books that parents will enjoy reading aloud as much as their kids ehjoy seeing and hearing it.

Clever and creative story w/ lovely art
I purchased AlphaOops specifically for my 6-1/2-year-old daughter, whose name begins with a Z. Upon first reading, she thought is was "strange" that Z would want to go first. The next night, she asked for the book again and the second time it was "silly." The third night in a row, she had all kinds of ideas about all the letters, their personalities, their goals, etc. Not only was it fun to read aloud (it reminded me somewhat of Jon Scieszka's style) but it inspired my daughter to think of her own stories for the alphabet. The art is striking enough to interest very small children and the length is perfect for a bedtime book for kids of any age. We keep this one handy, beside new & old classics by authors ranging from from Dr Seuss to Mo Willems.

Fab!
I bought this for a friend's child, growing up in a Spanish-speaking home. Little 4-year old Reyli is so smart, and pretty good already with English, thanks to his attendance at Head Start. I bought him this book, and from it he has learned the alphabet. He had also learned to relate to the letters individually, vs. the "abcdefg" song. This, in turn, is helping him with early reading. We also have a lot of fun with it, even when the book isn't around. Sometimes when he's here, I ask him out of the blue, "Hey Reyli, can "M" go first today?" "No!" he says. Then we have fun back and forth about it. "OK, how about "C" for the cookie you are eating?" Lots of fun, giggles and play in that. I guess the best compliment I can pay is that not only does Reyli love the book, but so does his older sister, his mom, and I, and I'm 54! Don't hesitate, grab this one, no matter what your age.

Wonderfully humorous alphabet book!
It's great to find a book that adults or older children can read aloud over and over again to younger children without ever getting bored. The humor in the text and illustrations of "AlphaOops" is contagious. Fun on every page, with a super-abundance of delight at the end! After seeing my son's copy, I am ordering several more--one for me, and others for gifts. This book is a must have for adults and children who know how much FUN words can be. This is not a book for teaching the order of the letters, of course, but once a child knows the alphabet well, he or she will be continually amused at the incongruities in the book. If there were a six star rating, this book would deserve it!

Such a cute book!
I loved this book, it's so cute. I bought it for a preschooler. She loves it and requests it for story time. The book personifys each letter and gives them different personalities. This book reinforces knowledge of each letter, independent from knowing it from the abc song. It uses aliteration. The pictures have beautiful colors. I would definitely recommend it!

Kids love this book
My Grade 2/3 class loved this book. They had not thought about the order of the letters in the alphabet and changing them around. Good discussion afterward.
