The solution is to sterilize everything (experienced home brewer of beer and wine - sanitize everything). Clean the tub, top, pump, cages and any bits in a light / diluted bleach solution - rinse and air dry. The pods, pre soak in a mix of warm water and hydrogen peroxide for an hour or more. Assemble and fill with water only and then let run over night. Any remaining bleach or peroxide will "gas off".
