Will these be compatible with MX riding boots that up come up to cover the shin?

Yes - I’m wearing mine out riding as I type this, they work great with full height Mx boots, they jut barely Overlap and no discomfort

What are you tips on sizing?

If you're an adult, I'd go with the large/xtra large. For reference, I'm 5'10" and 155 lbs. The other size would probably fit kids legs. My upper thigh usually falls in the large/xtra large sizing on knee pads, so that is how I buy them. The pair that I received do not look exactly like those in the photo in that the upper portion is closer to, and has a wider attachment point, to the lower portion. They work fine though.
