Let me start by saying I was bricking it spending this type of money on a single speaker. I had researched many other systems that came in way under the asking price for this unit, however, given that I already had a Play 3 and I was fond of the sound it produced, I went for this one. I cannot express how impressed I am by this speaker. For anyone that already owns a Sonos, they will know that setting one up is easy. Adding it to an existing household is even easier. This speaker fills my large kitchen/ diner with sound. Itโs vibrant and at louder volumes the clarity is impecable. The bass is weighty but not disproportionate. The treble is warm and punchy. Vocals sound crisp. Multi-room is a joy to use and works without so much as a hitch. I prefer to group this with my play 3 (used in my living room) using the app and then Airplay music to it as itโs much quicker than streaming through the proprietary software. Many have complained that the โmusic on this deviceโ option within the app has been removed however airplay is more reliable and a superior option, no you will hear no dissatisfaction from me. Alexa functionality is improving but temperamental. I believe that is partly down to my use of Apple Music also instead of Amazonโs own service. Occasionally I will ask Alexa to play music to the Sonos, then when I request a different song that will begin to play on another Alexa device. She then becomes unresponsive to commands aimed at the Sonos and I have to stop it using the Sonos app. Itโs not a big deal really. I would recommend this unit to anyone wishing to fill a large room with sound without having to play at crazy volumes. The sound is first class, the design is beautiful and the interface is wonderful.

I bought this Sonos Play:5 to go in my Kitchen / Conservatory room which is fairly Large. I already owned Playbar, Sub, Play 1 and Play 3. I was debating this and other options but went for a single 5. Firstly on opening the box you can see the quality of this item. its really well built, nice size but very modern and simple looking. Setup was very easy, adding to an existing Sonos systems took less than 5 minutes in iOS on an iPhone. I wanted the play 5 as I wanted the line in to connect an Amazon Echo Dot for I previously had an Echo in this room but the sound quality in such a large room was poor. Top tip if adding a Dot make sure to enable "start of request" in the alexa app and turn on auto line in on Sonos this gives the Sonos enough time to switch over to Line-in. The sound quality of this thing is amazon and it looks very nice also, overall very pleased with it. I use the Sonos app for Multi-room (I have a speaker in several rooms) and its very easy to use. Pro's Amazon sound quality Great for multi-room setups Line-in Easy setup Looks very nice and quality build Con's Price Sonos uses its own wifi network, yet another device hogging the 2.4Ghz band!

Sonos has always been slightly out of my financial reach and despite the affordability of the Play 1 it kind of felt like a compromised starting point. I knew from the reviews and in store demos that it was going to be a quality buy, I just wasn't sure how good it was really going to sound in my living room. After setting aside enough money for a new sound system I was stuck with the choice of going for either three Play 1's, two Play 3's or even one Play 5. I finally opted for the Play 5 with the view that it would be the best starting point sound wise and then the convenience of "adding on" at some point later. Well my word what a staring point it was, the sound exceeding all my expectations with literally jaw dropping results. I set the speaker up while having friends over in literally a minute after unboxing it (from really beautiful packaging) and after installing the app and hitting play we all sat round in awe of what we were hearing. Two weeks in and I still can't wait to get home and try another album just to hear the new lease of life Sonos has given the music that I have been listening to for years. The speaker itself is beautiful to look at and perfectly designed, from the power in plug at the back of the speaker to the touch receptive buttons at the top of the machine. Is this speaker value for money, absolutely, will I expand on the system, of course. Should you look elsewhere first when wanting to invest in a wireless sound system, not on your life.

Great sound, good looking. The software works and is user friendly. Just wish it was a little more versatile, in that you have to use the Sonos app, or attach a jack cable. You can't use it as a straight forward wireless computer/ TV speaker.

I've been using Sonos for over a decade. I have a system with 27 units in it (it was 28). When I started building my system support was superb. I used to live an old spawling house with brick walls. Sonos support would spend hours on the phone after work with me on the phone sorting out an optimal way to configure the network. Superb. I now live in a house with wireless friendly walls. My wi-fi hums. But my problem's have only become bigger. Sonos no longer provide telephone support out of working hours. Not helpful. They also seem to have significantly reduced the quality of the components they use. I have now had 3 units fail in the last 12 months. 2 were replaced under warranty (under 12 months old). The other they want money to replace (25 months old). When I started with Sonos it was rock solid quality (I still have some 10 year old units runing faultlessly), and support was outstanding. Sadly both statements are now false. I tried to communicate all this to Sonos customer complaints. Unfortunately no such department seems to exist. No customer complaint e-mail on website. CEO e-mail address not available (they recently changed him....but no improvement in the company). My e-mail to technical support complaining has been ignored for 2 weeks. Meanwhile the competition has improved immensely. I will be slowly switching to other systems, room by room, over the next decade. Advise you don't get sucked in by the great audio quality......it doesn't last.
