This thermostat features backlit display and precise temperature control of plus/minus 1°F. *Not compatible with electric baseboard heat and some other systems. Review: Good basic thermostat for simple HVAC systems - The wire terminals could be better positioned. The most logical way to route the wires would place them behind the temperature buttons - the ones you use are not part of the face, they must contact the actual buttons attached on the circuit board. It may be easier if you have only one thermostat cable, and not two (the air handler installer opted to add another cable rather than replacing the existing one). It was a simple install, other than the wire routing. The labels were helpful to mark the wires being used. I have found I do not need the backlight - all the settings seem to be easy to read. I would prefer that it not need a battery, but many models do. I was looking for an inexpensive replacement to our old, erratic mercury switch thermostat. I have found it to be reliable and accurate so far. It does audibly 'click' when operating, but so do many others - have not found the noise problematic. Other household items make noises as well. This thermostat displays both the set and current temperature at the same time. It also displays the current temperature when it is off. The cycle is not fine-tuneable (there is only one permanent modification available, meant for hydronic), but I have found it to cycle the system acceptably. The unit arrived on time and in good condition. I use it for a propane stove that replaced wood fired unit. It controls the temperature fairly well. However, the LCD is somewhat difficult to read. The up/down temperature button is awkward. A four degree change in set temperature, either higher or lower, is needed to initiate the change in temperature, then the temperature must be set to the desired temperature. Connecting the two wires to the stove was more time consuming than expected. The wires are held in by compression from a small set screw. The screw is small but easy to reach and holds a single wire securely. There is a jumper wire that shares the connection with the second wire. The instructions clearly state to keep this jumper in place. The problem I encountered was the differenced in wire size, the jumper being the larger of the two. The jumper was tinned and the wire to the stove was solid. When tightening the set screw the base of the screw encountered the jumper first and the screw could not be tightened enough to compress the smaller stove wire. It took a number of tries to make this connection stable. I was about to remove the jumper and solder the two together and reinstall. The unit doesn't get much use as the stove is used infrequently. I chose an inexpensive unit for this reason.
