The hour hand doesn't move unless the minute hand is being moved. There is a knob in the back as well. **Q: do the hands move together?** A: I don't know which clock the other person has but I have the 12" clock with product number PER 2094 and the hands do move together. However, on my clock, they are not fully aligned and there is no way to adjust the alignment because you can't move the individual hands. I have also had a Judy clock in the past and I recommend it over this clock. It is better quality because while the hands move together you can move individual hands if the alignment gets off. **Q: Can you move the minute hand counterclockwise as well as clockwise?** A: Yes! Our Big Time Learning Clock is able to move the minute hand both counterclockwise and clockwise. **Q: What do you mean you can set for when you want them to do something? It does not run on its own correct?** A: If you want them to pick up their toys at 7:30 you set it for 7:30.
