I like the small size, carry bag. Moisture number is always updated. No pause in waiting for ready to display

I am a novice hay farmer, having harvested my first hay crop this year. I found this easy to use and accurate enough for small farm use. There were many to choose from and they varied in price quite a bit. I chose this, which was on the less expensive side. I am happy with this purchase.

If you have horses or livestock that eat hay, you need to have one of these. This tool made it super easy for me to test the moisture levels of individual bales of hay. I recently bought some hay from a new hay farmer and some of the grass bales felt a little heavy. This tool quickly let me test bales and I found that some of them had over 30% moisture content! This could lead to moldy bales, or possibly even spontaneous combustion if left in a stack. Because of the moisture reader, I was able to pull the moist bales out and feed them now preventing loss of the hay from either rot or the potential for fire. I gave five stars because the while the functionality is simple, the directions leave much to be desired. There are a bunch of different functions, but I couldn't really understand what the different functions mean. I also don't know how precise this moisture reader is as I don't have any other tool to calibrate it. I don't even know if it can be manually calibrated. That being said, I could definitely tell that some of the bales were moister than others and this tool confirmed it. This tool, along with a cheap kitchen digital cooking thermometer, and you have what you need to test your hay. I'll keep this with me when I go to pick up hay so that I can test bales for moisture before going through the trouble of unloading and stacking them.
