Review: Game pass wins the console war - I had both an Xbox one and a PS4 pro in the last generation. I originally had an Xbox, but switched to PS4 to play some of the exclusives. I have to say a couple of the PS4 exclusives were great, god of war, Spider-Man and the last of us being my favourites of the ones I played. I was therefore really tempted to go for the ps5, when it came to deciding on which new console to buy. The upcoming exclusives on the ps5 do sound good, but once youโve played god of war and Spider-Man etc I can imagine that the sequels to these games will hold many surprises. The ps5 haptic feedback controller was another factor that interested me in the ps5, although I am aware that a slight downside is people have been experiencing controller drift. Lastly the ps5 console itself in terms of look and size would not fit particularly well into my entertainment set up. So I decided on the Xbox and I have not been disappointed. The console is so so quiet, having played both the Xbox one and PS4 the fans on both were noisy at times. With the series x I can honestly say Iโve yet to hear it make any noise at all. I was also worried about heat, as my previous consoles could almost heat the whole house, when operating. However the series x doesnโt seem to give off nearly as much heat, meaning Iโve felt quite happy with it in my existing tv cabinet rather than having to be on top. The dashboard is what youโll be used to if you had an Xbox before, itโs easy to use and has everything you would expect, including various tv and movie apps, if you want to use it as your only entertainment station. The controller feels good, itโs really solid and comfortable and the vibration feedback is good (although not haptic like ps5). In terms of playing games, Iโve played quite a few on it and thereโs not a lot out there that fully takes advantage of the new hardware. That said everything Iโve played looks great and runs really smoothly. The quick resume feature that lets you jump straight back in where you left off is really convenient and all of the games load up really quickly. A lot quicker than my PS4 pro or Xbox one did. Iโve saved the best for last in this review and that is Game Pass! Game Pass allows you to access a library of over 100 games for a monthly fee, if youโre clever you can use ea play vouchers to buy your subscription and get it for around ยฃ5 a month, but even at the actual price of ยฃ10.99 a month this is amazing value. Itโs allowed me to play a bunch of coop games with my wife for short periods, that I just wouldnโt pay for under normal circumstances. Iโve also tried a lot of indie games that I wouldnโt have bought normally. There are also loads of ea titles on there, so you can play pretty much any sports game you want, including fifa 20 and pes 21. They have also said halo infinite and a lot of first party games will go to game pass on release. When you think that one of these first party games might cost ยฃ70 this is amazing value. Iโm so glad I chose the Xbox and game pass is the reason! Review: The only next gen console option - This thing is a monster and is a joy to use, where as the PS5 is just clunky and unfinished with many missing features. Gamepass is well, a game changer and a fantastic way to get access to the latest games as well as games that you might not have even looked at otherwise. I cant think of a single negative with this product, it's compact, silent, powerful very well built.
