It is rated for both lead acid and lithium ion batteries. Since i received it, i have had the chance to experiment with the MP00207A. Using the clips the unit quickly and efficiently charged my battery. The unit tells you if it is properly connected and whether it is charging or the battery is fully charged. I am totally happy with the purchase. It took some research to find how to use the unit on a lithium ion battery, but once found it works great. (Red clip goes to the + terminal, by the fuses; the black clip to a bolt for the suspension system.) As an update, we just used this Motopower charger to maintain our Hybrid Sonata, during a two month trip. We were gone for two months during which time we used the Motopower to avoid our hybrid totally discharging (due to non-use). it worked great. The charger is for 12V batteries only. It cannot charge a 60V system. **Q: why did this charger turn off and let my battery die over the winter only to turn back on after i recharged the battery with a different charger?** A: The charger will not charge a battery that is completely dead so if something happened (power outage etc) and the battery died completely then that would explain what happened.
