The thickest section across the length is 5/8" in the grip area. These measurements are by sight with a ruler. **Q: Does it have a locking mechanism so it doesn't stay wide open?** A: Most of us who use this style of stripper... remove the spring so it doesn't self-open. It takes nothing to flick it open with your pinky or ring finger when you grab it. That auto-opening spring is annoying and it makes your forearm tired earlier in the day.
