These two things can cut the potential performance of the drive in half, or worse! You need to use a cable rated for USB 3.2 Gen 2/SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps or better (such as the one that came with it) and plug it into a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port (or better) or a Thunderbolt 3 port (or better, recommended). If you need a longer cable, ensure you buy one rated for 10Gbps or better (I usually over-spec the cable for 20Gbps so if the cable degrades over time, it'll still support at least the10Gbps the drive wants). If you use an adaptor to convert the USB-C to USB-A, you're limiting yourself to USB 3.0 speeds (5Gbps) which is half of what the drive supports. Only do this if there is no other choice! If you plug into a USB-C port not rated for the higher speed, then you also limit yourself to 5Gbps.
