This book is a part of Douglas Wilson's series of books on the family, which has helped many people trying to deal with the on the ground messes that come with sinners trying to live under the same roof. This book on covenantal headship contains much practical and biblical wisdom that is never more timely than now, but which we will always need to be reminded of again and again. Review: A must read for husbands! - This book is jam-packed full of wisdom. I have found only one exception. You can't sin righteously. Wilson quotes the law many times, and says that it is good, and even quotes the law that says, if a man takes a second wife, he must not neglect the first wife. This is how you practice polygyny righteously... specified by God Himself. Yet Wilson doubles down on the monogamy-only TRADITION enforced by the Roman influenced church, thereby basically accusing God, although using sleight of hand and probably without realizing it, of doublemindedness and possibly even deceit, because if adultery as the church defines it is a death sentence offence, how can a perfect God say "Here's how to do it righteously" and then not spell it out as sin in His own law. There's a problem here, and if Wilson subscribes to the view that our modern morals are higher than Gods in this area, it's the singular exception to all the rest of his great work. I hope he someday sees his error. All that being said, I wholeheartedly support the Father>Son>Husband>Wife Biblical heirarchy presented here, and how to live it out in servant leadership. Every stance he takes is rooted in scripture. While you may not agree with his interpretations or applications at various points, there is no doubt that his desire to honor God above all in how we marry and function within marriage, guides his understanding.
