Roland FP-90X Flagship Portable 88-Note Digital Piano

This was a big purchase for me. I went ahead and bought this on Amazon because the sale at my local dealer ended but Amazon still had the sale price. My local dealer also couldn't get the three-pedal accessory for me in a reasonable amount of time.The piano sounds great. It replaces a 2006 Yamaha PF500 that just wore out. The upgrade in sound from both speaker and headphones was surprising. I hadn't been aware of what I was missing. It's also nice that bluetooth can be used to define a pedal to cause a page turn on some of the apps, so I don't have to move my hands to flip pages. This piano doesn't have as many sounds as the Yamaha, but I never used those other sounds like glockenspiel or explosion or base drum. I like the weight of the keys and the size of the keys. I did have to buy the stand and 3-pedal separately since it seems like digital piano makers all use proprietary connectors and stands, so I couldn't reuse my old 3-pedal and stand from my PF500, but even the latest Yamaha PF525 isn't compatible with the accessories from the PF500, so that isn't a mark against the Roland FP-90X. I'm quite pleased with this purchase and have no trouble recommending this digital piano to others.

My initial thoughts are this piano is fantastic. The keys feel a bit heavy, coming from PHA-4 to PHA-50, that's gonna take some getting used to be it FEELS great, which is what I wanted. I bought it used, from sweetwater, and it came in the original packaging, I'm almost not sure it was actually used to any great degree, I don't see much dust, don't see wear on the keys, and the pedal is brand new, never been used. Everything came with it, I'm very happy with this purchase as of right now, but I've only had it for a couple hours, I'll need more time to determine what I really think. I'll come back to this review in 2026.

The Roland FP-90x keyboard is a game-changer for anyone who's serious about learning to play the piano. As someone who bought it to teach themselves how to play, I can confidently say that this keyboard is a great investment.First and foremost, the sound quality is amazing. The piano sounds are rich and full, and the additional instrument sounds are a lot of fun to experiment with. The speakers are powerful, but if you really want to get the full experience, I highly recommend using headphones. The FP-90x's SuperNATURAL modeling technology produces a wide range of expressive piano tones that sound almost like a grand piano.But the true highlight of the FP-90x is its feel. The keys have a realistic weight and response that makes it feel like you're playing a real piano. The ivory and ebony key textures are also a nice touch, making it easier to play for longer periods of time without your fingers slipping around.Of course, there is one drawback to this keyboard - it doesn't come with someone to force you to practice! But in all seriousness, the FP-90x is a joy to play and practice on. With all of the different modes and features, it's easy to get lost in playing for hours at a time.Overall, I highly recommend the Roland FP-90x keyboard to anyone who's serious about learning to play piano. It's a bit of an investment, but it's worth it for the sound and feel alone. Just be warned - once you start playing, you might not want to stop!

Most suppliers stated "on back order." Going through Amazon, we had our keyboard as scheduled for delivery. The product is everything we thought it would be.

Unboxing: Outer cardboard box had some damage to it from shipping, but no damage to contents due to good supporting packaging within the outer box.Contents: Piano, power adapter and cable, clear music rest with hardware, DP-10 sustain pedal, printed owners manual (in many languages).Set-up: The manual was clear on explaining set-up and function of unit.Use: I am using this as a practice piano. Great keyboard feel. Sound system is very good. Location of headphone jack is good. Many options for keyboard function....delivering great sound. At this time, I have tried using the APPs available with this piano, but find that the controls on the piano itself are adequate for what I need.Cons: Volume level is not consistent when switching between keyboard modes, requiring minor volume adjustment. Use of sustain pedal can result in "choppy" sound (I have to be much more accurate with use of the sustain pedal compared to that of an acoustic piano.....maybe this comment is true of all digital pianos??).

I researched the Roland FP-90x online, at a music store, and through Amazon. After cogitating for a few months I ordered and received this keyboard (with stand and stool) in January 2024. It has been wonderful. While I played a little when in elementary school, my piano lessons never stuck. Now in my 60s I feel relaunched using "Simply Piano" lessons on my iPad and this wonderful instrument. It feels and sounds like a real piano, a wood or ivory keyboard. I practice a half-hour to two hours each day and I am lifted. My ear and coordination have both improved. While my skills are beginner now, I appreciate that this device will rise with my ability -- or always remain well above my skill level.(It also looks good, and I can move it about if needed.)
