Works for 2017 VW Jetta.
Problem: a broken VW key blade holder on the key fob. I had to move the electronics (board) and the cut key blade from 2017 Jetta over to this key fob shell. The original Jetta key blade end was thicker than the blade holder on this key fob so it had to be shaved down to fit. This will probably be the trickiest part. The guts of this fob is ok, the material seems not as thick and heavy as the old VW fob. There's a good video on YouTube for instructions. Works perfectly now, cost about $12 as to $300 to get a new key/key fob from VW. You can move the VW sticker over to the new fob also. Last 2 photos are finished product. 4th photo is the part that's smaller than the original VW key fob (where the key blade goes in.

Saved me $1200+
I had some car trouble and took it to a mechanic who in the end, screwed me out of hundreds of dollars along with breaking the only key to my car. Went to the dealership to get help with my initial car issues as well as a replacement key. With the parts I needed, it would have been well over $1200. After some research and some reassurance from my boyfriend we went this route. Bought this blank key, got it cut, and we were able to put the chip into the new key. Worked like a charm. I am so greatful.

Good quality shell
My daughter's fob fell apart and I was able to fit it with this. I took out the circuit board and it was an easy swap. The key, however, was much more difficult. The parts on this shell and the OEM shell to not line up so you can't swap the key over. What did work for me was removing the key blade by pressing out the retaining pin then swapping it with the blade in this shell. It looks great and I even swapped over the VW logo so it really looks like a new OEM key fob now.

MEH...Not great, but it works
This works for a 2012 VW Passat with A LOT of time, patience, a Dremel, and a bench grinder! My original fob broke where the blade slides into the flipping mechanism. I searched high and low for a replacement fob and chose this one because the ad states that it comes with a little Volkswagen emblem to put on the back of the new fob. After receiving the replacement fob, I attempted to get the blade out of the replacement fob with a small nail and a hammer. When that failed to work, I used a small drill bit and a hammer to attempt to tap it out. After breaking 10 small drill bits, I was finally able to get the roll pin out of the fob. I then try to put my blade from my old key fob into the new key fob and realize that my key was about 1mm too long at the end where it goes into the flipping mechanism. The roll pin slot on my blade did not line up with the roll pin hole on the new fob. I ended up having to grind it down the end of my key and also I had to thin down that end in order to get it to fit inside of the new fob. Once I got the length correct I had to take my Dremel and another small drill bit and make the groove bigger in my blade in order to get the roll pin from the new fob to hold my blade inside the flipping mechanism. Once I got the blade installed I took my transponder and internal chipboard and placed it inside the new fob and carefully closed everything up. To my surprise everything worked perfectly when I went to crank the car and also when I tried to lock and unlock with the buttons on the fob. However, the ad states that it comes with a Volkswagen emblem to stick to the back of the new key fob and my package only received a key fob and an empty bag with which I'm assuming the emblem should have been in. Since I had to do a lot of tweaking on my original blade and also I did not receive the emblem that I was hoping to receive in this package, I'm only giving this item 3 stars. This was the only key fob that I found that was supposed to come with the emblem to attach to the back of it and they did not send one with the one I received. Now I'm going to have to spend out a minimum $10 to get what I hope is a emblem that will actually fit in the circle on the back of this fob. Overall it's a good product but if they're not going to send emblems as their ad states then they need to take it off the ad. I also attempted to contact the seller which there is no way that I could find to contact them and when I contacted Amazon about it they told me I needed to do a return on the entire item and reorder it. That is not feasible since I'm already using this fob for my car.

Not OEM quality/fit, but it works
Great replacement for my Volkswagen Jetta SE 2013 The only problem is the key doesn’t open now you have to apply it open using your finger. The spring doesn’t release the key. I think it’s just because the key itself it’s not the exact correct size so it’s not OEM QUALITY but it works

Amazing
It’s a tight squeeze like the comments say but I switched my old vw Jetta 2012 Tdi shell for this one and it works perfectly.

Junk, look elsewhere!
I went through every step and was all excited to try the replacement fob and it was a complete waste of time as it malfunctions. Every button pressed on the fob sets the car alarm off. You can’t unlock, lock, or pop the trunk open. You also can’t turn off the alarm off by the fob. The buttons are very stiff and hard to push. Even with proper tools it took a great deal of time trying to get the roll pin out, the pin got ruined and I had to purchase a new one. There’s better replacements out there I’m sure, just hoping to save some people lots of frustration.
