The Holy Mountain [Blu-ray]

Purchased THE HOLY MOUNTAIN directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky which is undoubtedly one of the greatest films of all time. The title said Ultra HD so I was assuming it was 4K Ultra HD but it was a Blu-ray. I don't think a 4K Ultra HD version of this movie exists yet. Still amazing and I'm not gonna return it but just so you know. They should change the title to be just say Blu-ray.

Arrived fast. Standard BluRay packaging. BRILLIANT Film transfer. I am working my way through the supplemental materials, to prep myself for the main film.

....a statement on how much I like or dislike it. Which I do like this film. You don't need to be an artist or very educated to "get" the message in this film. The message is explicitly given at the end of the film, a shortened version however. This just shows that the symbolic message can be delivered in clear but generalized language. Obviously a lot is lost in this conversion but you still get the idea. Simply stating it you lose all the profundity as well. The movie delivers the message slowly with symbolic imagery and music. The artistic approach is fuller message, much more can be conveyed with less compared to using language which would take volumes of text to be as whole as the artistic approach. The thing is if you're not all ready familiar with all the symbolic imagery you wont have any idea of what's going on at best, at worst you'll give it your own meaning and miss the actual point, perhaps even get offended by your personal interpretation. What I'm getting at is if you're already familiar with the symbology you probably don't even need to watch the movie hahah but chances are you'll get a kick out of it anyway.

Holy Mountain is an inexplicable joy of a film. If you are into strange, thought-provoking, WTF movies, this one is sure to please. Be warned, if you think Top Gun is the greatest movie ever, this is not for you. I am not being elitist. Hell, I love a popcorn movie as much as anyone, but anything Alejandro Jodorowsky creates defies popcorn - except as a cure to the munchies. Best viewed in an "altered state" this movie will mess with you and any preconceived notions of "normal" cinema you may have. If you're new to Alejandro Jodorowsky, I would suggest you start with Santa Sangre, his most accessible work, using a very loose definition of accessible. BE ADVISED - This is not a UHD release, just a normal blu-ray.

Excellent product but boy does this movie take you for a ride. Not for the faint of heart, easily offended or stout religious person. It’s gorgeous, confusing, stunning, appalling, offensive and wonderful. If you read that and think “ok, I still want it” then get it. Glorious movie.

This movie isn't for everyone. It could be very graphic, disturbing and even grotesque to most. It is considered a psychedelic cult classic. But I think this directors films are unusually interesting? The DVD was in good condition and picture quality was good!!!

Movie is listed as “Ultra HD Blu-Ray” which means it’s a 4k blu-ray disc, however it’s a normal, non-4k disc that’s sent.

It should go without saying that if you're familiar with Alejandro Jodorowsky, you know it's going to be a ride. Massively symbolic and artistic with themes that transcend time. Anyone interested in, studying/practicing, or open minded regarding antiquity beliefs should give it a try. Fair warning ⚠️: this movie WAS made in the early 70s, and not made for a "family" audience. It is a reflective piece on beliefs mixed with religious, political, and social satires/parallels that again, transcends beyond it's time of creation. I'd recommend seeing it at least once in your life, if not owning it (like I do) and watching periodically enough to keep perspective.

While this took longer to arrive than any other Amazon purchase I've made. One has to realize we won't always get our product 'tomorrow'. So i waited & it's been worth the wait just for the Xtras on this disc. Beautiful presentation. Super stoked to have this physical copy in my collection.
